I am not finding answers to this on Southwest's website. My dilemma is this: my DS is at Disney on the College Program. While he has a current end date in early January for his internship, he is hoping to extend. Problem is, he won't know if he can do that until only about a month before his internship ends. If we wait that long, airfare will be considerably higher than what I can book right now. So, I am tempted to buy flights now with the thought that he will be leaving at his scheduled time.

If I do book flights and find that he has extended until Spring and I need to reschedule flights, how do I do that?

Also, if I book a flight and the price goes down (they were $5 cheaper just a few days ago and will probably go down again at some point), I think I read on the Disboards that Southwest will issue a credit for the difference? How does one request that?

Thanks for your help.

You just go into SW's website and go under change your flight. I would book it as 2 one ways instead of a round trip, it will give you more flexibility. If the fare goes down, it will be a credit in your SW account to use up to one year from the original booking date.

Thanks for the response. So if the fare goes down, you do a "change" to the exact same flight you already have in order to get the credit?

(Sorry for what are probably redundant questions. I haven't flown SWA for quite awhile since Delta and United have been cheaper the past few years for the routes we have flown).

Yes, you change it to the same flight with the lower fare. The credit automatically goes into your frequent flyer account under the confirmation #. To use the credit, enter the confirmation # on the screen when booking a flight.

You don't have to change to the same flight to get a credit. Yoou'll get a credit no matter what flight you book. That credit is good for a future flight for up to a year.

In the past, if you rebooked for the exact same flight, the same class of tickets, same time, same day, you could call after the flight and they would actually give you back the credit on your credit card.

That's why I love Southwest, their incredible flexibility and outstanding customer service. They are the ONLY airline I will fly to Orlando. I got fed up with Air Tran changing and/or cancelling my flights every time I travelled.
