Southwest "gift cards"

Yesterday, I received an Email from Southwest with their newest deals, etc. They are introducing new gift cards-you can get them in $10. increments and use up to 4 per itinerary. They provide all sorts of info on their website.
I forwarded the Email to my Dad as an oh so subtle hint for a Christmas gift!

Even to get one for $50. would be a nice treat when making our air ressie for next Dec.!!

I think that's a great idea.. I haven't looked at the web site since they actually began to offer them, but in their pre-advertising it said there was no expiration date on them.. What a great way to buy airfare for someone else.. You could do it a little at a time, all at once, whatever..

Yup. As soon as I got the announcement email a few weeks ago I decided this would be a Christmas gift for my mom.

This would be a great gift for my MIL. I have probably a stupid question, but I've never bought plane tickets. Do I understand this right, this is just like a gift card to anywhere else, you just buy the card and then they can use it toward their purchase of a plane ticket? I had thought about buying her a plane ticket for Christmas, but we were worried that she wouldn't be able to get off work to travel on those days, but this way she could choose which days work for her.

No such thing as a "stupid" question..

Yes - she can apply it towards a plane ticket.. I haven't checked all the details yet (if there are black-out periods or anything like that) but I do recall there is no expiration date..
