I know there was a thread a whole back but can someone confirm that I can purchase the Southwest cards with Target Gift Cards? Also do people buy individual seats and then pay one ticket at a time? There seems to be a price difference when purchasing individually?

Yes, you can purchase SWA gift cards with Target cards.
There are a couple of reasons to book one at a time. First, there are only so many seats offered at a particular price. If you try to book more than what's available at the cheap price.....you pay more for all of them. Second, there is a limit to number of gift cards/payment types you can use per transaction. By splitting up your purchase, you can use more gift cards. Also, it can make it easier if the price drops to get your credit.

It's a PIA but I'd suggest buying them separately. My June ticket, I bought one ways for all of us. The price went down recently, but only for 2 tickets. I had purchased 3 together so I couldn't get a credit for the price change!

Thank you for the advice. Will there be a problem if I am booking three children as well as two adults?

Book the adults first. When you book the children it asks you if the child is traveling with an adult and then asks for the adult ticket confirmation number.

I'm so glad I found this thread! I was thinking the same thing since you can only use a limited number of payment sources when paying through Southwest I just knew there had to be a way to maximize the use of those Southwest Cards through Target. I wasn't sure if I would be able to book my kids' airfare without an adult but it sounds like as long as I book mine and my hubby's tickets and then book the kids I can add in our confirmation numbers so they won't be considered unaccompanied minors, correct?

Correct. Book one adult (or both, it doesn't matter - you only need one). Then when you book a child's ticket it actually asks you if the child will be unaccompanied or traveling with an adult. You choose the option for adult and it asks you for the confirmation number for the adult traveling. You enter it and it looks up the reservation and you again confirm. It's easy. It takes you through the whole thing. We deal with it when booking my daughter with award travel (since she has her own SW Rapid Rewards).

Does that only apply to certain age of the child? We are getting ready to book and have a bunch of SW Gift Cards that we have been saving and I was going to do a RT reservation for my husband, my son and one for my self - so 3 confirmation #'s. Or would you do 3 separate 1 way tickets down and 3 separate 1 way tickets home? I have noticed that when I search SW for 1 traveler the fare is 252 pp but if I do 2 or 3 of us, it is 280 pp.

Thanks!

I'm not sure if the age makes a difference. I only have one child and she's 6.

I think you can apply up to four payment types per transaction. So I would work it whatever way saves you the most money. For my upcoming trip, I had enough points for each of us to book the return flight home. So I booked three separate reservations for each of our return trips. Then for the way out, I'll price it individually and also together and book whatever is cheaper. I have three SW gift cards to apply so if it's the same cost to book together, I'll just do it that way. It makes check-in a little easier.

I'd buy it individually so that 1 person is getting the 252 rate. If you are using the $100 egift cards from target to buy two $282 tickets, you'll only be able to use $300 in GC, then rest on a CC. The limit is 4 forms of payment, with each GC counting as one form.

I also learned that previous flight credits also count as one per person. So if I buy 2 tickets and both people have flight credits from 1 confirmation code, it still counts as 2 forms of payment used.

So I have 1 egift card for $50.00 that I purchased on WalMart.com (I had Walmart gift cards to use) and then I have 3 $50.00 gift cards from Target. That is all I am able to use? Not those and th en the rest on a CC, correct?

Thanks!

Not sure if the age matters however when I booked my DS as a separate ticket a few weeks ago, it did not ask for any confirmation number. It only asked if he was traveling with an adult (not sure the wording but think it was mentioned above) and I checked Yes and that was it. I do agree it's best to book the adults first just in case.

If you buy a ticket that's under $200, you can use all 4 GC. If it's over $200, you'll only be able to use 3 GC and the rest on CC.
