southwest flights still too high

Our flight for Sept is more expensive than I thought it would be too. (SDF to MCO)
I booked anyway (flying with others so not much of a choice). I am hoping the price drops.
It has already dropped a little and I rebooked at that price.
Now the website is saying it can not find my reservation

We are also flying in Sept SDF to MCO. Had some credits and booked the return flight, 9/10 for $92. Now we've decided to add my son AND come back a day later, flights went up $60 Since we booked with credits that expire in October, it won't do us any good to watch for the decrease in fares .

I try not to look at it every day, but I do anyway, lol.

I've been checking everyday for flights out of Providence and they are $165-398 one way. I need 4 tickets so it's adding up to way more than I thought we would spend on airfare.

Every year for over 10 years we've flown SW (Loved them) but had to Break up with them because this year was outrageous! And what's so crazy is that on the News it keeps saying how Airfare is the lowest it's ever been??
We for the 1st time in 10 years are Flying Frontier Airlines. Cost us $262.00 pp RT compared to $550.00pp RT with SW, and that was with Frontiers extra cost of adding Check in bags, seat location ect. We fly out of Denver, Co.

It is so frustrating to see the stuff on the news about how airfare is so low and then reading here about people getting R/T for around $200. It's crazy! We fly SWA primarily because it is the cheapest. For example, if we were to fly round-trip out of Grand Rapids to Orlando, it would be $349 per person on SWA. The competition isn't any better....Delta is $356 (before adding bag fees)...United is $505 (before bag fees)...and American is $350 (before fees). All of those flights have connections and some are ridiculous...like a 3-hour stop in Atlanta or a 40 minute stop in Cincinnati. Not to mention that these flight are also late-night (after 5pm) departures and early morning (before 10am) returns.

My breaking point is $1200 for our family of 4. We can rent a car and drive, spreading it out over 2 nights down and one night back, and still only spend about $1000 total. I will fork over the extra $200 for convenience, but anything more than that and we will simply extend our vacation and drive.

well i got 1 ticket reduced to $102 today. lol I guess they only had 1 seat at that price. Return flights are still sitting at $158.00. I'm almost to the point of buying 3 tickets with my remaining 29K points and then purchasing the last ticket with cash.

Checked again this morning and they had 3 tickets for $102. I was able to call and get my last 3 tickets adjusted. I will now have enough points to buy the last 4 tickets at $158. That will bring me down to $260 Round trip a ticket

We fly from PIT on SW for every trip and the prices have increased a lot in the past few years. I think $260 round trip is about what we paid last June ( used points).

As annoying as it can be, sometimes it is worth a quick check daily to see where prices are. I had about 10 min of idle time on Saturday, so decided to give it a quick check even though prices had not moved again for us the last couple weeks, and welllllllll, our return flight went from $136 to $103, so I made the change (since we booked with pts)! To my surprised (and out of curiosity), I checked again on Sunday, just to see, and back to $136 it went just within 24 hours!

We booked in April and our RT price trajectory (with hikes in between after we booked/changed) has been: $407 => $347 => $294 => $266 => $236

Since we booked with points, changes are easy since the pts just get credited, but I can imagine it's harder for those who aren't booking with points to book and wait for changes...

It's more about where you live. If there's competition between airlines, fares will be lower. For example, the New York/Philadelphia area. If you are in a city without much competition, fares will be higher. I was hoping that with Allegiant and Frontier coming to PIT and Spirit to Latrobe that fares would go down but they haven't.

Its all about the competition. I was able to book 5 SW seats last week (only about 6 weeks out) for $90/seat. Couldn't beat it, especially since one of the legs we're using points. We're flying out of Newark. Its a newer hub for SW so the fares were very competitive against Jet Blue and United (both huge in Newark.) Keep checking - there could be another price reduction surprise for more of your seats.

I JUST checked...like one minute ago, and flights are down to $99. They were $246 this morning. Yay! I get to extend our Disney trip!!

Out of 3 trips to various cities and 2 others I am looking at I only saved points on one leg of one trip. A whopping 460 points for each of us. Southwest is getting on my last nerve this year.

We are flying out of PVD in September and the price seem to keep going up. I purchase 5 one way coming going for 105.00 each and coming home for 168.00 back in March (but in points) and did get a credit when it went down to 132.00. Now they are going back up again. Can't seem to get anything lower than the 132.00. Hoping we both have good luck soon.

I booked $384RT w/EBCI for our November trip. Fares (WGA) have been high and then sold out for the 19th; did not think about the fact that this is the Saturday before Thanksgiving when we booked the trip.

Wow I did not know it was the bday sell thanks. I wrote this down. I bet they have sell like this next year same time.
I am going to make a chart of what day they have sells this year and see what one seems the best for the days I am trying to go. So I can be ready in a year to buy my tickets.
