SOUTHWEST fares high for November

Did you read the article? 3 planes of 750 planes for Southwest are affected. That's a tiny little blip of all their routes. Heck they could likely scrap those planes and write it off their books from an accounting perspective.

As an example their net profit annually is 2b and a new MAX is in the 100-150m range.

I don't buy some higher fares in November are directly related to the MAX.

Just checked a couple random dates in November for my standard work flights (so I know the pricing) and it's right in line with standard booking prices.

Could be a fluke on my end as I travel fairly full routes (typically 90% full flights that are "business" routes).

For comparison's sake: Right now my flight home SNA-PHL in Nov 2019 is more than my Nov 2018 ROUND TRIP flights cost to and from same airports. I was fully booked for the Nov 2018 trip by this time last year.

If this is specific to the MCO flights possibly Southwest has gotten smart to charge higher during a period right after they drop the rates? I know quite a few people from the NYC area also drive down to fly out of Philly at times.

Personally Philly doesn't have much for direct flights that I need so can't speak to it too much.

Whats the rate per round trip this year? Are you talking over $400 before taxes/fees or did you just get an extra good deal last year?

I just noticed you said SNA. I know historically Southwest has lost seat coverage there so not sure if additional fees and loss of trips have hit Southwest? It might be somewhat related to that?

I have been watching for an Oct Sat-Sat flight from OH (CMH or CVG) to MCO since they came out and they have been high from the start. $382/person for the times I want...there are cheaper options if I wanted to travel for 5-6 hours instead of 2 hours direct and arrive later in the day or leave very early on the last day. I ended up booking to Tampa instead to save $650 for 4 people. It's only saving me money in a round about way because now I will need a rental car and have to pay parking, but I'm staying an extra day and taking the kids to the beach (for very close to the same price I'd pay to fly to MCO the next day). Flying to Tampa was the same price on a Friday or Saturday so I opted for an extra day. Direct flights, good times!

On opening day I got MCO to PHL at 1:40 pm, direct, for 7,379 points, it's now 8,108. Going the wrong way.

We are flying in November, too, and SW has been ridiculous.

That being said, we booked the exact same time frame LAST year about 4 weeks out and the prices were DIRT cheap. I won't wait that long again this year, but just an FYI

From what I saw the November prices are quite variable depending on the date. During the recent SW sale we got what I thought was a pretty good deal, $105 for nonstop MHT to MCO, middle of the week for the week before Thanksgiving. Thankfully we were able to be flexible on the date. Interestingly, I just checked and the flight now shows $164.

On 5/30 when the fares came out we got $116 going to MCO & $132 coming back. We were happy with that. Especially as I now see the fare to MCO is $267 and back is $178! That is from Albany, NY
