Southwest press release:

Fall Flight Schedule Coming Soon

On March 23, we're opening our flight schedule through October 30.

thank goodness! I'm so ready to book our Sept flight and have that part over with. (although it's going to be a "fare watch" for a while") Hopefully they'll have some good Orlando prices!

I can't wait either! Hopefully they will offer a good enough deal so that my family of 5 can Fly not Drive to Orlando! :thumbsup2

I've never booked my flight for our annual Sept trip this early anyway. I have a fare in mind (no more than $89 each way) and play the waiting game until I get it. Every year I think I'm gonna have to break down & pay more but not yet. Last year I snagged $69 down on Delta , did pay 1 bag fee, and then got upgraded to first class at the gate for free!! We were so spoiled!!! Then SWA was $79 back, plus EBCI (so worth it for the return trip). Total with all taxes & fees $377 RT from BDL (Hartford CT) for DD and I. Hoping for around that again this year!!

OP-we must have been reading our emails at exactly the same time as I posted same info.:lmao:

about what time will the new dates be open? I know it used to be around 10:00 CST; is it still? Looking to book 4 award flights and 1 companion pass flight from LAX to PVD on 8/21 and want to jump on them as soon as I can.

I'm hoping the last half of August will be cheaper that what the first half of August is showing...if now our flight budget is going to be blown out of the water. We normally go in September but didn't want to pull the boys out of school this year...I didn't factor the airfare being twice as high because we're going to weeks earlier!

Thanks for the info! The best I can do right now using www.kayak.com is $231 pp on Airtran, so I have to pay for bags and seat selection. We're considering the auto train too but also waiting for a deal. So far that is around 800 for 4 with a van and a AAA discount. If we have to drive, we will.

I hope they don't change the date. I took off that day, have an 8:30am dr appt hopefully getting home before the 11am release. Then later that evening off to the airport!!!:woohoo:

we often pay that much from OKC each person!

Waiting and watching is good if you can be flexible with dates and times. With cruising, we can't just opt for the 8:30am return if our desired flight jumps in price so I tend to just book and then watch to grab credits.

I guess it depends on your tolerance and how much you like to gamble.

Can someone confirm the approx time the new dates are opened on the 23rd? I think another posted had said 11am CST (off to google what that means to me in Toronto...) ;)

A confirmation would be appreciated - as Air Tran non-stop from BUF is sucky both in price and departure time (although as we know that could change many times!)

They actually changed this froma couple weeks ago. In late Feb they stated they would open until Nov 5th. My trip is 11/5 to 11/13 so I'm bummed they backed it off until 10/30. I was at least hoping to buy my flight down, and then return flight when they open later in Nov.

how fortunate we have been with airlines fares. In 2006, the whole family (of 4) went for a grand total of $548 RT!!! Don't think we'll ever be that lucky again!!!

If Googling, it's now 11:00 CDT, as in Daylight Savings Time. We turned our clocks 1 hr forward last Sunday. :thumbsup2

Does Canada do this at all? Only very few parts of the US don't. AZ and maybe parts of NV. ??? Not sure exactly.

I have a quick question for everyone.... generally is it better to book on the 23rd when they open the fall rates ? is it usually the cheapest then ? I've flown SW alot just as a quick run home, but never for planning a vacation....so I'm a little nervous ..... do you all think that that day will generally be the best pricing ?

Last year that was not the case- they were HIGH HIGH HIGH! I'm going to book my flight there (or returning flight...whichever is cheaper), wait for the fares to drop, then rebook that flight and add the other in. No one take my idea, now... ;)

Sometimes they drop a week or 2 later, sometimes they just go up, up and up more. Those are the times I'm glad I book right away. Even if the price drops, you can rebook and get a credit for the difference. We're always planning something else so those credits never go to waste.

thank you, that's good advice.... I kind of have in my head that I'd like to be at least under $ 90 each way. SO maybe when I get a good price, I should just book it and not worry so much. thank you for your advice !!!
