I've never used DME before but I remember reading that if you are flying Southwest you have to get your own bags and bring them to DME. Is that still the case? I am considering using DME in January and I would actually prefer to keep my bags with me since I keep hearing about people waiting for hours for their bags. I'm just trying to make up my mind. Thanks

Not true. If you yellow tag them me will grab them. It takes about three hours from when you check in to get your bags (assuming a room has been assigned to you. If you get in early you may not have a room yet so bag services will hen your bags). Can it take longer? Sure but I just pack what we need for the day in a carry in and not worry about luggage.

When DME first started you could not use resort check-in for your RETURN flight when traveling on Southwest. That changed quite a while ago and Southwest is now a "participating airline" for resort check-in and baggage handling when leaving WDW.

You could always use the baggage handling service on your inbound flight when traveling on Southwest. Just put the yellow tag on your bag before checking your bag for your flight to WDW and you're good to go.

Good to know that Southwest participates in DME. I'm thinking the convenience will outweigh dealing with a car rental. We may visit a college while we are down there but we could do a day rental if that happens.
Thanks:goodvibes
