Does anyone know how the southwest/wdw luggage is goung to play out? Have a trip in the fall and neither southwest nor disney can answer any questions on how it works. Shouldn't they know by now?
To clarify, this service is already in operation for guests identified on the links above. To date, the service has not been expanded to any other resorts or airlines.Does anyone know how the southwest/wdw luggage is goung to play out? It is an extremely limited offering. Yes, but currently you have to pay for your bag when you check at the airport. If wdw is doung that, how do you pay? We have asked wdw and they say they do not facilitate the payment. It is an extremely limited offering. All info for the offering is already available on the weblink provided by focusondisney (above).
Disney was never involved in the luggage fee collection back in the Magical Express days. The bag transport company collected the baggage fees at the time you dropped off your bags unless you had prepaid them when checking in for your flight online (or were flying SW when it was still 2 free bags per person). Since SW is now collecting baggage fees unless one qualifies for free bag(s) with their credit card or some other program, I assume it will be possible to prepay the baggage fees when completing online checkin, and that the bag transport people will be able to collect these fees if they have not been prepaid. That has been the standard practice at all the non-WDW hotels providing remote airline checkin services that we have visited.Yes, but currently you have to pay for your bag when you check at the airport. Give it at least 6 more months in my opinion. If by then this perk sits well with fliers to Disney, I wouldn’t be shocked if we saw this expand to the other resorts, and in the case of airlines, see rivals like Delta, American, and other airlines.I wish they'd be expanding this to cover DVC resorts, soon. And it's OK with me (at least before assigned seating, then we'll see) to limit it to Southwest. Any idea how long this "pilot" may last, before they expand?
You pay for your bags when you buy your SW ticket. If you don't, then you have to go back into the app or website and make the change and pay the bag fees. It has to be done prior to dropping any checked luggage off. Same as back in the Magical Express days, if you were checking a bag and there was a fee involved, you paid the airline directly when booking your ticket.Yes, but currently you have to pay for your bag when you check at the airport. Yes, when you start the process at the self check in kiosk it will ask how many bags you are checking (if any at all). If you have not paid, you will be prompted to pay for them at that time. Your tags won't print until you pay (and this is for flights booked after 5/28), then you take your tagged bags to the check in counter. That is if you don't pay when you book the tickets. I am not sure why the other poster was not able to pay for their bags when they bought their SW tickets online, it asks if you want to check bags and how many. The price is then added on to your ticket and you pay when booking. Then when you go to the kiosk at the airport, it knows you have paid and won't ask for a method of payment there. Can you pay for bags when you check in and get your BPs?
That's strange. We just booked an additional ticket for an upcoming trip for my BIL and it asked us if he was checking a bag, we indicated one and we were able to pay for it.Right now, we couldn't pay when we purchased SW tickets. They said the system was not set up for it and we would just have to pay when we gave our bags over at checkin at the airport.it's a cluster.
Disney SW bag transfer functions like a bag drop. Guests checkin online, get their BPs and pay anything required for bags. The employee weighs and tags the bags
Not really. The agent in the value resort can't touch your reservation. The agent can't change or cancel your reservation. The agent can't even print a BP or accept payment for bags.Yes. Its essentially like walking up the the check in counter but at the resort.

It's like skipping the counter and going directly to bag drop.
