Southwest dates open thru Jan. 3 2015!

Well we decided to move our trip from early February to the week before Christmas. We are 99% sure dh can get the vacation dates we need but there is a slim chance it might not work. Jetblue had cheaper flights and while I would have preferred to fly Jetblue this time, we booked Southwest. We paid about $150 more but it's worth it if we end up needing to change dates.
Flight prices weren't too bad. About what we paid last year for the same week. I had points for one leg, so I think we ended up paying about $1100 with EBCI for the 13th to the 23rd out of Buffalo for four people.

An aside question then - why did flight times change for November-December? I've flown SW/AT in March, end of April, end of May, and mid October, and flight times (nonstop) were always "around" the same times. Now today, I found that the 11:00 flight I was thinking of was gone, instead I could choose from 9:00 or 12:50. And the latest evening flight was 6pm rather than 7:45, so we working on adding another day to our trip. Why did that happen? Is that normal?

I wouldn't call it normal, but I also wouldn't call it abnormal. SW doesn't change their flight schedules very often, but they do change. I used to fly weekly, and I they changed their flight schedules a handful of times while I was flying. You get used to a certain time week after week, and then we would have to regroup and figure out our new best flight time after the changes. SW used to offer 5-6 non-stops per day out of my home airport to MCO and now there are just 2 non-stops per day.

SW lost a customer this year, ended up booking with Jet Blue for around $1200 for 3 tickets round trip, SW last year was around $950 but this year they wanna say all the WGA fares are soldout, I have to fly in the night before planned but even with staying in AoA-LM that one night for $150 + the cost of flight is still way cheaper then SW this trip.

April 2015 is not included. Neither is most of March, 2015.
