Does anyone know if you can transfer or extend credit from Southwest? I have $700.00 to use by March and I am not sure if I will. Thanks for any help!

Sandy

Southwest does not offer any credits for the difference of your ticket if the price changes.
Generally ticket prices increase the closer you get to the date of travel anyway, so its unlikely that anyone purchasing a ticket after you would be getting a better deal. And if somehow they do, tough luck.by (Rimple B)

I don't know about extending, since the credit usually says "expires if not used by xx/xx/xx". However, I know you could use the funds to purchase tickets for someone else. So if someone you know is planning to travel SWA, you can purchase their tickets using your travel funds. For example, my mother had to cancel a trip once and doesn't fly often, so used the credits to buy a ticket for my brother.

I believe you currently can let somebody else use the credits.

However, I think after Jauary 28 (?), 2011 they will not be transferable.

Maybe you can use them up for a few long or short weekend trips? Or book a flight sometime in June or July. It just says used by XXXX date, not fly by XXXX date.

Unless there has been a fairly recent change, and I'm not current on all things SW, you can definitely extend ticketless travel funds. There is a $50 fee, charged per ticket, not per confirmation number. Certainly worth paying it if you have $700 in credits though. Note: if you have multiple small credits, look into combining them to book one more expensive ticket, then cancel that - it won't extend the expiration date on the credits, but could save you some money on the per ticket extension charges.

There's another little trick on extending credits...you have to wait until the credit expires before you can extend it...

That has not been my experience - Southwest's Ding fares seem to come out fairly close to the date of travel and by cancelling the original reservation and re-booking, you can indeed put the amount saved on account as ticketless travel funds.
