I have a southwest credit (from a canceled flight) that I don't think that I can use before the date. Do they extend the credit can you use the credit for someone else? any help appreciated

I know you cannot use it for someone else. They just changed that rule this past winter.
Don't know about extending the date, I would call.

IF they have the same policy as many other airlines (which often they don't), then you should be able to have a voucher reissued and have it good for another year. There would most likely be a fee for this. But usually it's better not to reissue until you know that you're going to use it. It doesn't matter if the voucher is 1 day expired or 5 years expired, it's the same fee to reissue. But if you reissue it now and then it expires again then it would be another fee for another reissue.

They used to charge a $50 fee to extend, but I honestly don't know if that has changed with the new re-vamped RR program or not.
