SW Newbie Q:confused: ; not sure if i'll ever figure their policies out lol.

Didn't get a Ding, but price dropped (Internet Promo) on our return flight for 2 people in our party.

Cust. Service had to divide the fares, since there were only 2 sale fares (now we have 2 Confirmation numbers).

Curious as to why I got a credit on the new confirmation # in lieu of a refund to credit card.:confused3 It wasn't a Ding rate nor did I change flight date/time....or does SW never give $ credits:headache: .

Instead of a cash refund, Southwest issues credits that you have a year to use. Keep that confirmation number since that is what you will need to use that credit.

I don't mind that SW keeps my money and just issues a credit especially if the alternative was charge $50 for every change (like the other airlines).

I don't mind that they issue the credit either. Just gives us a reason to go back to DW within a year. :thumbsup2

sorry meant to make this a new post... not a reply... sorry

Were you talking to the 1-800 CS rep or the 214 CR rep? Did you ask for a refund to your CC, or did they just issue the credit automatically?

Whenever I changed my flight to a lower price, I always called the 214 number and asked for the credit to be placed back onto my CC and I have never had a problem.

I had asked for the credit to be applied to my CC; but was told it had to be in the form of credit toward future flight(s)...that's why i'm confused - thought if the price dropped on original flight it wouldn't be a problem.

I called the 800 #; didn't notice a "214"; will have to look for it.

thanks to all who posted.

If you go under "travel tools", then "refund request", then scroll all of the way to the bottom, under contact information, there is the 214#.
Oh heck, why don't I just give it to ya?!?

214-792-4223.

Every post about refunds that I've read says that when they talked with the 1-800 rep, it couldn't be refunded. But, when they talked with the 214 rep, it could. I always called the 214 rep (and I have done this many, many times)

I read you must use the credit within 1 year? Can that be extended at all if you actually book a flight but it is past 1 yr. Eg trip May 2007, but if i book for next trip Sept 2008, but book before the 1 years of may 2007, would this apply. :confused3

Thanks for posting it - currently closed; will try later.

Funny, another cheaper fare opened up this am for DH. Went thru the same thing; this time online and funds went directly into SW account as future credit.

Again, the rep i spoke today to @ 800 # said only Full Fare tix can be refunded back to CC; shall report back results later after talking to 214#

214# said since I initially booked @ an internet fare & the new fare is a promo fare; they cannot issue a CC refund.:headache: stoopid:rotfl2:

FYI, policy is ALL details must remain the same on the ressie; any adjustment as to type of fare, time, or passenger necessitates a credit to SW account for future travel.

So sorry that things didn't work out for you. I have always booked the internet fares and then re-booked with internet fares (I suppose. It was always the fare that was farthest to the right). I wasn't aware of the whole internet vs. promo difference.
