Thanks everyone. At first, I didn't know which way this thead was going, but in the end I got the answer. Maybe I'll give SWA a chance. I never flew with them and like to have all my ducks in a row before I get to the airport. Thanks again!
I was really, really stressed last year flying Southwest for the first time (plus my first time flying all together). I wanted to be w/ DH and DS. Not a problem. We had "B" passes on a 90% booked flight and still no problem. Coming home the plane was so empty (I'd say only 40% of the seats were filled) and we had "C" passes then.
I just booked them again for later in Sept. I hope to sit together--but it's a 2hr nonstop flight-- so we'll deal w/ whatever seats we get I guess.
Do you need to have a printer to do on-line checkin? If you checked in on-line and received an "A", would you still get the "A" when you checked your luggage with the sky cap?? I didn't know if it was stored in your record. I'm not sure if we will have access to a printer, just a computer.
Also, if you have a connecting flight, would that "A" apply to both legs of the flight???
From what has been posted here, even without a printer, you are supposed to hit print. Then it can be reprinted at the airport.
The A pass would only be good for the first leg. Each leg has to be assigned individually unless it is a stop where you don't have to change planes. You can do that online for some flights.
when we were in Baltimore in July, the hotel had a computer hook up but no printer
we were able to check in online, when we got to the airport and went to the counter they were able to print our boarding passes out for us with no problem
the reprinted boarding pass had a "R" beside the number, which was the same number given when checking in online
Southwest does now issue boarding passes for connecting flights when you check in at the originating airport ( others who were on our flight to Baltimore in July were connecting through BWI and got both boarding passes issued ) but do not know if that is also true for online checkin ( most of our flights are NON stop so have never had connecting flights since this new service beacme available )
out of curiosity, just talked to an agent at SWA and she said you can print boarding passes for both legs of a trip Online if it is permitted ( saying this since sometimes the message comes up, "you have to go to the counter in order to get your boading passes"....some locators must be "flagged" )

You can now print your connecting flight at the same time you print your initial flight. Two pages print out.
Lawgs--if you get the message to check-in at the
the counter just hit back in your browser and try again. It is thought that that message may just mean the system is too busy. This was discussed in flyertalk and many of us were able to check-in by trying a few times.
If you try to check-in at midnight sometimes the computer says you can check-in before the system is ready and you'll also get that message.
Lewisc - thanks so much for that info !! - I would never have known or thought to keep trying !
renda460 - we had no problem calling SW and having the reservation I made for 3 separated into 3 separate reservations - they even corrected my mistake of booking the wrong name (put my son's name down instead of my nephew - force of habit !) - great customer service - she changed the name without even making me feel stupid about it !!!
