I wasn't sure whether to place this here or on the transportation board but just wanted to share this.

We recently switched to using a Southwest credit card last month for all our monthly expenses and bills - we pay off every month so as not to accrue interest. We travel frequently and SW is our airline of choice. When we signed up I had the offer for 50,000 points after spending $3000 in three months. They gave me 25000 points after spending $1000/3mos. I called and the marketing department amended our bonus to 50000/$2000/3mos which we have already met. They said our points would transfer the day after our statement closed. If anyone recently got the 25000/$1000/3mos deal call and tell them you wanted the 50000 point deal. This is 2 out of three tickets for us to WDW this year!

We do the same thing. Anything we can charge we do but it takes a lot of discipline to pay it off every month so i wouldn't recommend it for everyone.

I don't get it,which did you sign up for? I would think if you signed up for the 25k points, then that's what you get...:confused3

Sometimes if u call, they are willing to give u the better deal even though u signed up for the less attractive deal.

DH did the southwest promo last year, Got the personal card and the business card for 50K each so a total of 100K. Then spent $10K to each another 10K points for a total of 110K. That gave us a free companion pass meaning I fly for free from about Sept 2012 to Dec 2013. We went to Vegas in November for Thanksgiving on points - an awesome deal.

We're planning a trip to DLR this summer. We should have enough points for 3 tickets and then my ticket is free. We're also planning another Vegas trip in the spring.

Can you explain how the companion ticket deal works? I got the 50,00 points and have charged an additional $20,000 (between a new fridge, a spring break vacation, and Christmas shopping). All have been paid off. What do I need to get to to get the companion ticket and how does that work?

You need to earn 110,000 points within a calendar year (I believe).

After that, you are given a companion pass (you have to name the companion) who then gets to travel with you free for the remainder of the year and the whole of the following year.

You earned 70,000 points last year. Unfortunately, I don't believe you will be able to hit 110,000 points as it is now a new year.

DH got both the personal and business CCs so he got 100,000 points from both cards (50K each), then we spent $10K to earn another 10,000 points to hit a total of 110,000 points.

I actually signed up for the 50k points offer and they mistakenly gave me the 25k points. They rectified the situation and gave me a 50k after spending $2k in 3mos which we've already gotten. I just appreciated the great customer service and have been able to rack up even more points since! We'll be getting all 3 of our tix for only about $100 bucks out of pocket this next trip to the world.

We pay biweekly to track our expenditures and make sure no interest is charged.

We could get another 50k offer on a card under my name (DH got the last). I'm thinking of getting this one as well. Does anyone know if you can link the same RR# to two different SW cc? If I can then I would be able to get the companion pass this year already with the points I already have.

No...not if the cards are not under the same name. My DH got both cards, personal and Business, under his name.

It doesn't take much to qualify for a business account. Look into it. Remember, all kinds of things are businesses.

I was going to say this. Dh & I get paid biweekly but opposite weeks so each week we pay a big chunk to the card. Sometimes every 3 days if we have a lot of expenses.
It really accumulates fast & we earned a one way flight just in the last month, not even including Christmas shopping.

When I think back to the old days of waiting for a statement in the mail, then mailing a check, no wonder it's so easy to get in over your head.

I pay the credit card at the end of every day we make a purchase. If there is a limit to the number of payments I can make in a month, I haven't found it yet.

You were able to link two credit cards to your husband's name? The reason I ask is that both my husband and I already have a Soutwest card but we might be interested in applying for the business one also. If we did so, it would go under his name.

I have the card and the only limit I have seen is you can't schedule payments within 3 days of each other.

Example: If I set up a payment for this coming Monday, I wouldn't be able to schedule a payment for the following day (Tuesday). Next payment I would be able to schedule would be for Thursday.

Us too. I don't understand why they can't accept payment 2 days in a row but I've managed to make it work. I do change my payments often so my list of cancelled payments looks really long.

Yes...because they are 2 separate cards linked to the same Southweat acct. They do have to be under the same name. This way Dh earned 50K bonus on each card. We earned another 10k from spending. Total of 110k points within a calendar yr. That earned us a free companion pass so I fly free the rest of last yr and all of this yr, even when he flies on reward flights.
