Southwest - carry on & personal item

I've looked in the website, but don't see a definitive answer.

My mother has a regular carry on, and was hoping to bring a backpack as her personal item. She's using the backpack like a purse.

I would think it would be too large as a personal item, but I'm not sure. Its your standard size school backpack.

Any thoughts?

The last two trips I took on Delta, the crew made it clear that as long as it fits under the seat in front of you, it can be a personal item.
My DS packed a few nights clothes in a backpack for a short trip, and it fit under the seat in front of him. So he could have brought another bag

I just flew SW and on both flights they said a carryon that fit in the overhead and a personal item that fit under the seat in front of you were allowed. We always have school-size backpacks and they definitely fit under the seat.

Yup, she'll be absolutely fine!
I have the Dooney & Bourke DCL large sketch tote that I use as my purse and boy when I fill that thing it can get HEAVY!! But it fits on the floor in the spot in front of my feet so it's a go!
My sister teases me and says if my purse was any bigger, they would make me check it as a piece of luggage! She's really just jealous because she wanted one of those Dooney's & didn't get one and now they're discontinued.

Don't blame your sister for not wanting to pay that kind of insane price.
Things change on ebay like crazy. And, since we don't know what one you have, we have no way of knowing what it is. Not that it really matters.
