If I book two tickets and pay for them and my son gets called to join the Navy sooner than his date.. Will they allow me to cancel his ticket or apply it to another person (his sister) or bank it for a future flight??

Credit is unfortunately only available in the name of the person booked on the ticket, so in this case it would be only available for use by your son. There are probably exceptions, which SWA experts will be able to chime in with soon!

Thanks to your son for his service!

another option is to buy southwest points to drop into your rapid rewards account, then use those to book his flight- so if he cancels the points go back into your account for general use,no strings. I've done this myself with "old" kids who may or may not be abe keep the plan!

Is buying the points usually higher or the same?? Points needed was around 11,000ish I think that was for a ticket costing $210

Hope that perhaps SW has a "military" exception in the booking changes/cancellation rules.:wizard: THANKS for your sons service and best of luck!:goodvibes

Call Southwest and see what they have to say about a military exception. In general with Southwest, if you have to cancel, the funds will be "on hold" for a year from the original booking date (NOT the travel date) and will be available for use only by your son.

You can also purchase a business select or anytime fare which are both fully refundable. Although, I think it would cost less to purchase the rapid reward points and book that way.

Another option on the RR front is that you can transfer points from other accounts into one account for only $20/2000 points.
