Southwest Big Fall Sale 10/2/18 - 10/4/2018

I stalked the rates for our dates and randomly the return flight we wanted went from about $150 to $74 - it's a Indy to MCO direct flight, a Saturday afternoon. This was about a week ago so we booked right away using points we had from my card account (it covered it :-). I just checked it and it's up to $124 now.

My husband recently opened a new card account and we will get 40k points. We will book the flight down once the points hit our account and hopefully the price of $144 drops then also -even if it doesn't, the 40k bonus points should just about cover all 5 of us.

We don't typically fly out of IND, but rather MDW usually - but the drive is only about 30 minutes longer and airport parking is half the price. I regularly check several airports around me looking for the best deals. I also do research on the best time to buy. I assume people have their reasons but I love the "discount" airlines - for 2-3 hour flights. SW has always been reliable and the cheapest for us.

strange fares with SW for Jan--I bought our tickets for our Jan 29 to feb 5 in aug--going was 109 NS and coming home was 159 so I bought going down hopping that coming home would drop--so then I realized that coming home on the 6th the fare was 109

since were DVC and staying on points I looked to see what was open--to my surprise feb 5 was the only night open during our stay at BLT so I called right away and got that booked and the went to SW and booked coming home for 109

I always thought tues were cheap days to fly--our NS on tue is now 359$!!!!!and wed its 109

then I checked yesterday and going down dropped to 99 so called and got points put back into account and coming home is 122 which isn't bad

so we got an extra day of vacation and flying cheaper!!!

great day

I got $81 from Dallas to Orlando and the same price back in November.

Just incase anyone is opening a card and waiting on points to hit their account before booking, my husband did his and they came 1-2 days after the bill cycle closed, which was just about 30 days after getting approved for the account.
