I know when we flew United last year we pretty much walked off of our plane and went across a hall and were at our baggage claim. Is that the norm for every airline at MCO? Just curious how far Southwest's area will be? We have almost managed to pack everything carry-on but thinking about checking 1 bag so we can send goodies home!

thanks

Hi,

No matter which airline you take to MCO you will arrive at one of the four "airsides." From there you will need to take a tram to the baggage claim area.

After your tram ride, you exit security at the main terminal. For any airline it is like coming onto a football field near one of the goal posts. The baggage claim areas correspond to under the side grandstands (and down one level).

For some international passengers, the customs station is in the airside terminal, before the tram ride. Passengers must retrieve their baggage there for inspection but may put the baggage on a different conveyor belt (bound for the main terminal carousels or Disney's Magical Express) rather than schlep the baggage onto the tram.

Hi,

So if we decide to bypass checking bags where we would go to get to the rental car section? Do we still have to take the tram regardless?

Yes you take the tram in all circumstances.

If you want to go directly to the rental car areas, after the tram ride and after exiting security turn either right or left and go all the way to the side of the terminal building. All car rental agencies have their counters duplicated on both sides downstairs.

If you think of MCO as an inverted 'X', over on it's side, you'll have a better idea. With the 'X' over on it's side, Side A would be at the top, Side B would be at the bottom...those 'arms' going out would be the tram lines to the gates...each arm has specific airlines that use it. No matter what airline you arrive on, you will have to take the tram to the main terminal, you arrive on level 3. You have to go to the baggage claim area that services your particular side (A or B), down on level 2. Then, ground transportation is down on level 1. Now...DME is located on Side B, level 1. So if you arrive on SW, you have to go down to level 2 of Side A, get your bags, then go back up to level 3, go through the 'hub' area of the main terminal, crossing over to Side B, and down to level 1 for DME.
It sounds confusing, but it really isn't.
Try this link...it may help....http://www.orlandoairports.net/ops/term.htm

If you are confused...just google the airport website--- Orlando Airport's website has complete diagrams of the airport......I find it easier if I know the geography.

I LOVE the trams......."whether you are returning home or visiting one of our World-Class attractions".....that means I HAVE ARRIVED - let the fun begin!!!
