I am debating flying Southwest for the first time in May to Orlando. I have to admit that all the stories about larger size people being asked to buy extra seats or being bumped off due to their size has me kinda nervous over a reservation with them. Can anyone tell me if they have ever been approached personally on any flight and asked to buy another ticket or been denied their seat on the flight.

I asked several large size people at work today who have flown Southwest and found that none of them have had any issues with seating. One lady is almost 400lbs and she said she sat in the seat with her husband and not a single Southwest employee said a thing to them.

You can pretty well guess I am a Pooh Sized fluffy person with a large belly and posterior area who is very concerned over those armrests going down and seating. I will be sitting with my DH and plan to check in online so we get the A seating and get on first to sit together.

Thanks for any info on this..if anyone would rather PM me, go ahead I really need info on this to make up my mind if it is safe to buy a ticket on Southwest with no worries.

While Southwest is the most likely to require the purchase of an extra seat, do keep in mind that other airlines have similar provisions in their Contracts of Carriage. In either case, there is no guarantee that it will be enforced, even if it is applicable.

BUY THE EXTRA TICKET. You'll get to board early and get the extra seat. If there is even one empty seat on the plane the fare for your extra ticket will be refunded.

NO GUARANTEE but the COS who post say they always wind up getting the refund.

The rule of thumb is if you can fit in a normal movie theater seat you should be OK.

try measuring across your backside,if its over 18" I would buy the extra ticket,if not, take your measuring tape with you so that you can prove right then that you will fit in the seat just fine.It worked for me last year. Good luck
