Southwest and luggage on arrival ?

I did a search and found nothing, but according to the Disney rep I just spoke to...when I fly Southwest in MCO in Decemeber, I will have to retrieve my own luggage from the carousel and take it to ME? Is this correct?

I questioned the gal from Disney, and she said it was a change made this year. We have traveled numerous times with Southwest to MCO and never has this been the way luggage was handled. This is a Christmas trip, so we will have a large amount of luggage and 4 kids - I hate the thought of having to deal with that on our arrival!

I think I will call Disney again and see if I can get an ME rep. Anyone fly with Southwest recently on ME?

The change has nothing to do with SW. The change applies to all passengers who arrive at MCO 10p and later. Those passengers have to grab their own luggage. SW passengers (arriving after 10p) have to get their bags, go back up to level three, schelp their luggage to the opposite corner of MCO and then go down to level one.

JMO but you might consider a car service. You'll be halfway to WDW in the time it will take to walk over to the DME desk with your bags.

Thanks for the info. We actually land at MCO at 11 am, so the after 10pm thing does not apply.

I just called Disney back and talked to another rep, who went and checked, and she said no change has been made - place yellow tags on bags and they go through ME to our resort. I was very thankful to hear this news.

I hate how you can get conflicting info from what should be considered the expert source - Disney on Disney!

Still would love to hear confirmation from recent Southwest fliers that all is the same as it always has been...would just make me feel more peaceful

Last week I flew SW to WDW from Chicago. Had no problems with DME handling the baggage. Although I wasn't in the room when the baggage was delivered, it was definately within a reasonable amount of time.

She must have been confused about something. As long as you have the yellow tags on your bags you do not have to pick them up yourself. They will be delivered to your room usually within a few hours. We go ahead to the parks and the bags are always there when we get back.

We flew Southwest last week, didn't have our yellow tags (never came in the mail), arrived 11 AM, and still had the bags in the room when we came back for dinner.

I am sure the first agent was thinking 11 PM not AM. We were lucky enough to be staying at POP so we used RAC to check our bags on the way home for Southwest. POP and All Stars are the only resorts with SW resort check in at this time.

Thanks for the reassurance from those who traveled recently! I figured if this really was a change that it would be talked about on these boards.

I think the agent may have been confused with departure and Southwest where you do have to take your luggage with you from the resort to MCO, but who knows?

I feel bad for those who are first time travelers to Disney getting this info.

I just spoke to an agent who told me the same thing. She said I would have to retrieve my baggage from baggage claim and transport it to the DME counter and then get in line for my bus. I questioned her but she insisted.

I just flew SW to WDW in Feb and I know I didn't have to do this. It wouldn't make any sense to tag your luggage if you had to take it on the bus with you???

They must be getting confused with the departure info.

Every single person that arrives at MCO, and has a Disney owned resort reservation is entitled to a ride from the airport to the resort, and to have their checked/tagged bags delivered to the room, directly. It makes NO difference what airline you arrive on.
BUT....it does matter when flying home. Everyone still gets to ride the bus, but only those on the 'participating' airlines are able to check their bags at the resort and get their boarding passes, which enables to them head right to security at MCO. But, now SW is starting to participate, but only at POP and the AllStar resorts.

Many, many CMs continue to give out this incorrect info. I'm beginning to thing that those families that have brought their checked bags to the bus with them may be those who got that incorrect info, and didn't know any better. Man, I wish Disney would train their people better.
