is it me or has southwest really cut down on their 79 one way tickets. we are going on december outof philly and i check every day and they still do not have the 79 tickets on sale yet. what should i do

Do you subscribe to SW emails or their DING! service? I find a lot of pretty good prices prices in there. Alas, not all the $49 fares fit my schedule and I end up paying $85+/- sometimes, but at least the super bargains have been appearing when I look.

Good luck!

yes i have it but i have noticed that there are never deals for it between philly and orlando. :confused3

I would book now, and then rebook if the price goes down. I try and book the first day the fares open up. More often than not that is the cheapest fare for us, but I still check a couple of times a week, and if I see the fare drop, I rebook for the credit.

Unless of course you can book a decent fare with another airline.

I know how you feel!!! I needed airfare for Nov 27 - Dec 2 out of Philly to MCO. I felt like it took forever for their fares to be released (which it probably didn't, I'm just impatient! ;) ) and then when they were released, the 79$ and 99$ for our departing flights weren't available. I had to pay 118$ down but I got the 79$ flight for my return. I figure that at least I have my airfare booked and if it does go down I can always cancel and get the flying credit. We are going in Jan, too, so that will be fine, but if you aren't planning on flying again within the next year, that may not work for you. I am still keeping my eyes on any DING! fares but they are only for travel through Nov 18 right now so they aren't much help as of yet.

Lancaster's not tooooo far from Baltimore. Since BWI is a SW hub, it might pay to check fares out of there, too.

Will they let you rebook at a lower fare? I'm checking now for Dec, and see they are 79 each way.

I see lots of $79 fares in Dec....

If you don't mind the extra hour to JFk, Song does a great flight for $135.00 RT. I believe the site is flysong.com. They also have the satellite TV on each seat, very nice!!

Now, I prefer Philadelphia, Neward, Lehigh Valley is 10 minutes away....just too expensive. We did the JFK for the price. It wasn't anywhere near as bad as I expected. I am sure it helped it was a Sunday morning.

It may just be the airport, but I was able to lock in a $79 rate going from Manchester, NH to Orlando this afternoon. Actually, I was able to find a $79 rate on various days that I punched in. Hoping when SWA opens up the rest of December, I can get the same thing home.

SWA is funny when it comes to cheaper rates. We had looked for months for a flight to LV and the cheapest we found was like $198 each way. There were several discounted flights to LV and back on Ding, but never out of MHT, so we gave up on that trip.

Hope things work out better for you.

JFK is just to far way. thanks for the suggestion though

SWA likes to give the image that they are always the 'cheapest' alternative, but they do tend to let the market they are in set the pricing. When they moved into MHT they gave good rates, now sometimes their prices are no better than USAir or UAL. Depends on the time of the year, etc.

When they first listed their September prices they were dreadful, now they are much better ($115) cuz they are trying to fill the flights at a slow time of year.
