My wife and I are going to surprise our DD's 11 & 9 on Christmas and come to WDW for 5 days. The girls have never flown and my wife and I haven't for quite a while. My question is --- how long in advance does Southwest list their flights. SW looks like the cheapest by FAR. I want to be ready to pounce when they are listed. It looks to me that they only list 6 months in advance. Is this true? If so, is this typical?

Yes, it is. I think they would post the rest of the year flights in about a month or so. good luck and have a wonderfuly trip!!!!

Thanks, and if anyone has any advice about cheaper airlines from the Chicago/Indy area - please share.

Southwest will open the schedule on June 10 for flights thru January 7,2011.

I use kayak.com to check airfares for all airlines, with the exception of SW. Southwest does not show their fares on any search engine. This way, I get an idea of what fares are for my dates. Remember to add any baggage and/or seat selection fees to the fares of most of the airlines that show on Kayak.com

Southwest will give you credit if the airfare goes down. That credit is transferrable and must be used within one year of the purchase date.

Make sure you check for the airfare the day they come out. And the prices always fluctuate. I'm flying in Aug from Chicago Midway and was waiting for the $74 flights to go down in price. I never saw it go down but go up, so I booked $94 last week. Yesterday, the same flights dropped to $89, I changed my flights, and now have a credit. Today, the same flights are now $115.

So, I would say if you see any flight from Chicago to Orlando under $80, then grab it.

Thanks for the great information. I really must be doing something wrong. Most of the flights I've seen are from $350-500. I guess I need to start asking more questions on The DIS!
