Southwest airlines

Honestly, I think they've got everyone convinced that they are the "low price" carrier, but I find there prices to just as expensive if not more than other carriers. Delta is almost always cheaper for the routes I fly and I get an assigned seat with Delta. Not impressed with Southwest.

I am the OP. See in the past, I felt as you. I found cheaper airfare on Delta or USAIR in the past. This year, however, Southwest was cheaper by $35 per ticket, and they dont tack on a baggage fee.

They aren't always the cheapest flight for me but once you factor in the baggage fees they often are. This October it was cheaper for me to drive to Akron and park my car for 3 days to go to Disney for the weekend then it would have been to fly Southwest out of Cleveland. I am not checking bags though. If I were checking 2 it would have been cheaper to fly Southwest even with the higher rate because of the baggage fees.

The airports you fly are also important. If you are flying out of or to a hub location you may find cheaper flights on the traditional carriers but you have to remember to factor in all of the fees, not just the ticket.

I think it's just my routes. I usually fly back and forth between JAX and OMA and Southwest is usually at least $100 more.
