Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards

I signed up for the credit card and the page went to an approval page but then told me to close it out. How long before they send me a credit card or some kind of acknowledgement?

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to that. I applied online the other night and had confirmed instantly followed by an email 24 hours later saying my card is in the mail. You might try calling customer service?

It told me they need more time to consider. I got a phone call from them the next day, which I missed. A few days later I got a letter saying they needed me to call and confirm some things. I called and went threw all the application info and they told me I was approved. I just got married a few months ago and moved not long before that so I think the new name and address were the problem since I've had a Chase card before.

Received my card yesterday in the mail. Called to activate it right away. While on the phone with the customer service rep she was going through everything and paused when she came to telling me what the sign on bonus included .. I was worried she was going to offer a lower amount of points but she said "Congratulations it seems you were able to receive a card with 50,000 points. We no longer offer that program so congratulations!" Big sigh of relief .. I was afraid they would knock it down to the current 25,000 promo.

Now I'm just waiting on my first purchase made last nite to post so I can pay it online right away .. and get the clock started. Our trip is 9/5 so not much time to waste in getting the necessary gift certificates before the trip.

I think the offer is good until May 17th? I'm pretty sure that's what it said when I applied this morning.

Slightly different question from me... I was already approved for the card but I don't even have an RR number yet! :headache: I should've just signed up for RR first - and then when I remembered I needed to do that, I'd already submitted the CC application online.

Will they assign me a RR number as a new card customer, or should I apply for a RR number separately and have it added to the cc account?

You will automatically be enrolled in RR with the card. DH was not a RR member when he applied for the CC and got a RR membership card a few weeks after he got the credit card. :)

Awesome! I hope that is the case b/c my co-worker is looking to sign up for the card but when you go online the present promotional is for just 25,000 points. I'll have her try to use the link that I used for 50,000 and hope that it works!

I googled Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Credit Card 50,000 points to get a thread that had 50,000 points

I just applied and was accepted right away. Does anyone know if you have to use the 50,000 points within a certain period of time? I have a trip coming up next June that I would love to use the points for, but I hope they won't expire before then!

Your Rapid Rewards points never expire as long as you make one qualifying flight or take advantage of any other RR earning opportunity during a 24-month period.

How do you know how many points your flight costs?

I'm thinking about opening a credit card to get the 50,000 points.

We need 3 roundtrip flights from Chicago to Florida in Sept. Flights right now for 3 roundtrip tickets for my dates are around $1,000 with taxes, fees, etc.

Would the 50,000 points cover that?

OR

Should I have my husband open a card too?

How much $ does 50,000 points cover?

TIA!

Your answer was on the first page of this thread:
The number of points is based on the dollar value of the ticket at the time that you book. It takes 60 RR pts/dollar for Wanna Get Away fares. So, a $100 airfare would cost 6,000 RR points.

The good thing is that if you book and your price goes down, you can re-book the same flight and have the extra points returned to your RR account immediately. I just did it this morning and had 2600 points returned to my account!
Based on what I wrote then, and what is still true today, it would take 60,000 RR points to pay for $1000 in airfare. You cannot combine RR points from two account to make your purchase, so you would have to
  • divide your flights either by purchasing one-way fares in each direction at an approx cost of 30,000 RR points from each account OR
  • divide your traveling party into two groups, and pay for each group's RT airfare from one or the other of your 2 RR accounts OR
  • purchase enough RR points to make up the difference at a minimum of $50 for 2,000 points and upwards from there OR
  • pay for as many flights as you can with your 50,000 RR points and then pay OOP for the remaining flights
Whether your husband applies for another card or not is entirely your decision.

We won't need the plane tix, but I wondered about using the points toward gift cards. Do the gift cards offered every vary, or are they always the same options? Example, I can use Walmart gift cards, but I prefer to shop at Target - right now they are offering Walmart cards. If that might change, I would wait to cash in the points.

Well crud....I tried applying and got the 'we need to review your application further to make a decision' I hate getting denied :( I never get approved with Chase and I don't know why. I don't have any negative accounts or other marks on my credit history, and we make enough.....even with scores in the 700's I got declined for a Chase Disney and my husband got approved.....so I think Chase just doesn't like me :( I've not applied for anything in years.....and thought I'd jump on this one, guess that was a bad waste of an inquiry LOL

Not necessarily, theratpack. I didnt get instant approval either or even an approval via email; however, I got a packet about 7 days later with my cards!

I checked my credit score yesterday (FAKO not FICO) and it was around 650 :( I just don't have a lot of credit....as a housewife/homeschooling mom there just aren't a lot of open credit opportunities LOL Plus when we finance something big like our mortgage, my lean credit history would hurt our interest rates so I usually don't get put on the loan. I really need to build my credit...it's not good to rely on my DH's so much.

Would be nice if they sent a packet with approval....I'm expecting a denial letter though :( Thanks for letting me know there is a small chance though, and that the 'further review' message isn't an instant kiss of credit death LOL

Well, approved :) That was a shocker...but I just received an email stating I was approved and my card would be here in 5-7 days. Now I can't remember if I got 50,000 or 25,000 LOL It's been over a week and I just knew I was going to get the 'denial' letter in the mail any day now.

I got our first bill today and the points have already posted, but in the month that took the tickets have gone up about $100 each way. I only have enough points for 1 1/2 tickets, but that's still a good deal for the $69 fee.

My DH applied for the card with 50,000 points and we just got the card today. However, I don't see anywhere any reference to the 50,000 points ....did we do something wrong?
