I am sure this has been answered many times. I am flying Southwest for the first time on Friday the 20th. I can not find any info on if the have meals for sale or jus little bags of pretzles. I want to make sure I bring some food if needed. Thanks.

No food for sale. Bring it on!

but PLEASE don't bring on a hoagie / sub / zep... or whatever you call it. I just came bacck from Vegas and someone was eating one that was loaded with onions and I could smell it for HOURS.

Thanks everyone. No hoagie for me. I will be bringing nuts and fruit rolls and maybe a chunck of bread or a roll.

I was once "off loaded" in some small airport due to the DFW airport being closed. We went to the Pizza Hut and ordered food. We were suppose to have an hour or so. Just as the food arrived they started screaming over the PA for the passengers on AA 1234 to move it back to the gate or they were leaving us.... So we carried the Pizza on LOL! (Yes, I know it was bad, but... there were a lot of us in this mess at least!)

I was stuck on a runway for a couple of hours after having been delayed awhile at the gate this winter and USair had just a few snacks available for sale. Of course they ran out early, not many people expected such a short flight to take so long. But why serve tuna salad? It smelled terrible!

I think I've seen every kiosk represented on some flights. My Dh let my DD get some Lo Mein for one flight. I'm sure the people around her weren't thrilled I could smell it from across the aisle.

Just returned yesterday on SW. No food. Ritz thin crackers & honey roasted peanuts. There is talk of them selling food on the plane. I think they are going to start testing that. Everyone was bringing on, Mc Donalds, Pizza etc.

Papa Deuce:
I know exactly what you mean about those onions. On our 2 hour non-stop 9:20 am SW flight in Feb, almost immediately after taking off, I could smell a VERY strong odor of onions (I am not an onion lover), it was not pleasant :sad2:. The odor continued for at least half of the 2 hr flight. As we were getting off the plane the men seated behind me were talking about how "good those sandwiches were" and the sandwich maker was telling the other guy about how he "put a good many onions on those sandwiches". Yeah, right, no kidding. Everyone else knew how many onions he put on there too. So, please, leave the strong smelling foods at home or save them for when you get off the plane. Take the packaged snacks, ham sandwiches, chips, candy, granola bars, even pizza, etc.... but, please, leave those onions at home.;)

Does SW give complementary non alocholic drinks?

I always bring on a candy bar and chips as my 1 daughter has a peanut allergy and can't usually have the little airplane snacks.

We are 1st time SW fliers too, going in June though.

We were offered 3 different Nabisco snacks. Chips Ahoy Thin Crisps, Shortbread Cookies and Whole Wheat Crackers and Cheese. They also offered honey roasted peanuts later in the flight. Our flights were 4 and 5 hours however. Shorter flights may not get this option.

FOOD????
What'll you want next--comfortable seats??
Just kidding (mostly) but peanuts and pretzles is about it these days. Since our flight is only about 2 hours, we can easily do w/o anything on the plane.

Yep..that was my SW experience in Dec/Jan...we didn't get to land in Providence, so got sent to Philly. There we could opt for leaving the plane and getting a flight the next day, or to stay with the plane and head back to Ft. Lauderdale and get a flight from there the next day. But, they weren't offloading any luggage, so we decided to return to FLL. When we asked about food (our flight has left FLL at 8am, it was now close to noon and we were headed back to FLL shortly....with only onboard snacks), we were told we could get off the plane and get something close to our gate. That was something to see....about 30 of us, rushing to the pizza place and Burger King, then rushing back to the plane..fully loaded with food. That plane smelled really interesting for quite awhile. It was not the high point of my flying adventures, I'll tell you that.

We always get the little airplane shaped crackers (like goldfish - only airplane shaped). And peanuts. It seems like on morning flights, we also usually get a breakfast bar. Usually a blueberry muffin bar. It's very yummy. :thumbsup2

They offer complementary Coke products. Please contact SW to let them know that your daughter has a peanut allergy. Good luck! :)

I am flying from San Jose to Orlando with a quick stop in Las Vegas so I will need some food items. I am packing some baggies with stuff along with a couple of snack bars.

Some airports have a Subway "restaurant" airside. You can generally ask for a package of dressing so your sandwich doesn't become soggy. As a favor to your fellow passengers hold the onions.

Passengers who have a short connection (under an hour) might not have time to even use the bathroom and shouldn't count on having enough time to purchase food.

SW has a section in their website regarding peanut allergies. Planes don't get a complete cleaning after every flight. SW suggests booking the first flight of the day, notify SW in advance--peanuts won't be served and board the plane early so you can wipe down the tray.

Not necessary if your daughter isn't allergic to the dust and only has an issue consuming peanut products.
