Southwest Airlines and DME ???

DS (20) has a free ticket on Southwest and will be using it to join us in the middle of our WDW vacation. I've been reading about all of the SWA line problems and am a little concerned about how soon he'll need to be at the airport. Here's his situation:
He'll be flying out of MSY (New Orleans) on a late evening flight.
He won't be checking any luggage (He's only joining us for three days.)
He'll print out a boarding pass at home.
He won't be flying back to NO.

Our questions:
How soon will he need to get to the airport?
Will he have to go to the check-in desk at all?
Can he use DME to get to the AKL if flying Southwest?
If he does use DME can he carry his smallish duffle bag with him on the bus or will he have to use the luggage service? The duffle is only big enough to hold underwear, a few pairs of shorts, a couple of T-shirts and his shaving kit. It's well under airline carry-on size.

How soon will he need to get to the airport? SW website says one hour before the flight Tue-Fri; 1.5 hours before Sat-Mon

Will he have to go to the check-in desk at all? If he prints his boarding pass, no, he can go straight to security

Can he use DME to get to the AKL if flying Southwest? Yes, he'll have to call to make a reservation, you'll probably have to have him listed on your room reservation so they can find him in the system since he won't be arriving with you.

If he does use DME can he carry his smallish duffle bag with him on the bus or will he have to use the luggage service? No, if just has a carry on he'll take it on the bus with him, the luggage service is for checked luggage. Just go straight to the DME check-in, they'll tell him where to board his bus.

Aim to get to the airport 2 hours before departure. No telling what kind of mishap you could run into along the way or in the security line.
