Okay, so we (2 adults, 2 kids) are flying from Ft Myers or Tampa to Philly Dec 23-30. I have a couple hundred $$ in SWA gift cards. I am going to download the DING alert thing. We rarely ever fly, so I don't know what to consider a good ticket price or not. I would hate to purchase the tickets @ $250 each only to find out later that they are $150 each. Can any of you more seasoned flyers help me? What price would it have to be for you to say "great price, not passing this one up"?

I don't know rates for that particular route (I'd assume they'll be on the higher side, since it is near the holidays). You can go ahead and book your flights and watch the prices, if they drop you get a SWA credit. Not as good as cash back, but not a bad deal (assuming you'll travel again within a year).

What is the DING alert thing please?

I haven't downloaded it yet, but it looks like an alert that will pop up on your screen when Southwest has a really good deal going. You can read more about it on Southwest's website.

Ding is a great program and I've scored some good deals using it, but definitely do your homework so you know what rates typically are on your route.

Just the other day I got a Ding offer for $1 MORE than the regular "wanna get away" fare on a route I've been watching. Still would have been an OK deal if had been for a last minute trip when rates were up, but certainly not for August dates. :rotfl:

Sorry OP, I'm not familiar with your route either. Good Luck snagging a great deal though!

Right now you can get $98 down and $119 back. If you are willing to fly into BWI and drive the rest of the way it would be $59 down and $102 back.

I'd watch on the transportation board but you can get the price difference back in credits if the price drops so since you are paying with gift cards and not cash that would be the easiest thing to do.
