Hello, just a quick question:
If we book our flights for may through southwest and then our flight prices go on sale, is there any way for us to obtain the sale price or does our price stay the same. I am pretty sure that our price would remain constant but just thought I would check.
Thanks

It's been a few years since we flew SouthWest, but we did have the experience that the price of our flight dropped after we bought the tickets. They were great about issuing us (via a confirmation number, not an actual piece of paper) credit vouchers that we used on a later trip. It was a very quick and easy transaction. I only wish they did assigned seating!

Hi - This just happened to me the last two times I flew Southwest this past fall. What they will do is credit your credit card back the security fee (small amount). Then they will issue you "Ticketless Travel Funds" which are good for a year.

What I had to do to make sure nothing went wrong was get a person on the phone while you are on their website. They will walk you through how to cancel your first reservation ...issue you the credit...and then rebook your flight at a lower fare.

I just booked tickets 2 days ago for May from Hartford and I am hoping they drop as well. The price was actually good...but I always keep my eyes open. Last September the fare dropped three times before I flew...which means I had a nice credit when I booked May's tickets. Hope this helps you!

It is very easy to do on the net. Just make sure the flights you want are available at the price you want and cancel the first reservation and book it again. It take about 3 minutes to do this and it keeps me off the phone ( I hate phones!!!).

So if I'm understanding correctly, you're actually cancelling your first flight and using some of the "credit funds" to purchase your new, cheaper flight, then pocketing the rest of the "credit funds" toward future travel? Can you cancel their internet or promotional fare flights?

I just did this tonight as the fares for our flights in May went down. Click on "travel center" on SW's website. Then "change air reservation." Then you'll need to enter your confirmation number and the name of the credit card holder. Your flights will then come up and you'll check which one or both parts of the RT flight you want to change. Then the new price will come up and it will ask you if you want to go ahead and make the change. If your funds were refundable, there will be a place to mark if you want it refunded and the amount. Otherwise it will just show the amount and that it will be applied to a voucher and when it will need to be used by.

I used to call SWA and cancel and rebook quickly but this time the internet fare was cheaper and the rep couldn't do it on the phone. She told me to go to travel center and make the changes. It worked great and was so much easier than calling!

Another great thing about SWA is they don't charge you a fee to change your flight!!!!!

You're right, the internet is so much easier than calling. The reason I had someone on the phone was because the internet fares were so low they were disappearing as I spoke. I didn't want to risk losing the low fares because I hit the wrong button or something. This way the southwest rep just walked me through it to guarantee I would still be able to get tickets on the particular flight I wanted. Good luck!

Yes, Yes, Yes! You can get a credit with southwest if your fares go lower. I've never canceled on line. I've somehow always gotten the sales agent to help me and get me the lowest fare that was on the internet. (I've always been real nervous to do it online). I currently have enough credit to pay for 1 ticket from our fares dropping for our Orlando trip. Woo Hoo! Keep an eye on your fares because they sometimes drop midweek and not on the Tues. when fares come out.

You got it and yes, you can cancel the internet and promo fares. Just make certain they are available at the rate you want.

Talk about "duh" moments, I had totally forgotten about that wonderful little feature. Thank you for the advice and reminder. :)
