So, January 2011 is our next rtip with the same family we went with last time, but using my DVC points this time.
They are flying, my family is driving due to cost. I have a family of 6 where all kids are now considered adults for cost. Curious. Has anyone ever seen it cheaper than $250 round trip to fly from chicago to orlando?
It costs me about $850 to drive. If I could fly for simialr or close cost I would.

We regularly fly Southwest from MDW to MCO. Southwest treats everyone as an adult with the exception of Seniors and lap babies. I normally get a fare of around $79 each way. For the 4 of us including taxes and fees it comes to 677.60. I find that the best fares are normally on the first day the fares become available. I haven't found a good DING in about a year or more. Then just check occasionally and watch these boards - sometimes the fare will drop slightly.

We just booked our October airfare at $79 each way via Southwest from Midway. After taxes and fees each one way ticket was $89.70 (Just under $180 round trip).

Good luck! We toyed with the idea of driving last year but about 4 months before the trip I chickened out and bought tickets.

Wow - $850! Seems kind of high... are you sure? We usually spend about $325 r/t for gas. We don't stop, but I'd think you could find a cheap room each way if you do. Although, if there are 6 of you, I guess maybe not...

Cheapest airfare we've gotten is $79 each way on Southwest, too. That was for midweek travel and in 2008. I haven't seen it much under $99 - $109 ea. way lately. I must be checking on the wrong days and missing the deals!

Ugh. I always go back and forth on the "should we drive or fly" question. We almost always end up driving. Transportation is the worst part of a vacation for me....I don't really like either option.

:wizard:Happy planning! Good luck getting the best deals, whatever you decide!
