Southwest A group - okay for families?

It should be fine! Even if you had a C pass people will move around for families. :)

Please don't promise people this because it isn't always true, nor guaranteed. If sitting together is your first priority then it is up to the person to do something about it not a plane full of strangers.

You are right I shouldn't promise this to people and I don't believe I did. However on every SWA flight I have been on I have seen passengers move so others could sit together. If passengers don't do this on their own then I have seen the stewards/stewardresses ask people to move. People in general tend to be nice and willing to help. :)

PS: One other thing to note. If your DH sits separately and you plan to swap the baby, make sure that he does not sit with a party that also has a lap child. Each row only has one extra oxygen mask per side, so there is a rule that no more than one lap baby may be seated in each row/section. If he was sitting with someone with another lap child, and he was holding your child, the FA would make your DH hand him back to you, sleeping or not.
Excellent point! Of course, the parents could switch seats (just as much child-jostling involved) so the lap child is in the same seat but mom gets a break!
