Southwest 50k point bonus back

Is there any way we could apply, spend the $2k, and get the points to book a flight for the end of September? Would there be enough time?

I know last time this promo was available. Some people had luck spending the $ right away and then calling and changing their billing cycle to a few days later. That might be an option.

How fast would the points generally appear if we got the card and spent the $2000 during the first billing cycle? The flights for the time period we're talking about will probably be released next month sometime and we really want to get the reservations as soon as possible.

Also, is it really enough for 2 tickets? How many points would we expect to pay for tickets for flights the weekend after President's weekend in February(Princess Half Marathon)?

Also, do the points automatically go to the SWA rewards program or do you have to request them to be moved there?

It took 2-3 weeks for me.

For us it's enough for 4 flights since our round trip flights to FL are only $200. It's $800 worth of flights for 50000 points.

Also, do the points automatically go to the SWA rewards program or do you have to request them to be moved there?

No they are automatic.

60 points is equivalent to $1 in the Wanna Get Away fare class so 50,000 points is worth $833.33 in airfare.

Actually, it's worth a smidge more than that. It seems taxes and/or fees are calculated a bit differently than when paying with cash.

For example, looking at PHL/MCO round trip and selecting $181 fare each way, the total cash price comes to $361.80. When purchasing with points, those tickets are 10,200 points + $2.50 cash each way, so $340 in points + $5 cash.

AAUGH!!! I applied for and received a card for myself last year during the 50,000 points promo .. I applied this morning for a card for DH and got the message of "your request is under review" .. wonder if that means he will be declined???

Yes it does based on experience :)

Why do you say this? Do they typically accept immediately? DH got this card a while back and his was not accepted immediately online. I don't know what the issue was, but we had to wait for a response in the mail.

Well, when my husband and I each got our cards we applied online and were accepted immediately. Then when we tried again for the other card, we got that response, and a rejection letter in the mail. Plus I am following a similar thread elsewhere that says the same. But who knows, maybe they have some reason to not accept people right away?

Bah humbug ... it was worth a shot

If that is the case, you can always try to call the recon number....reconsideration line. Read about it on flyer talk forums. Some people there said they were originally declined due to amount of open credit with chase, etc and they just had to have the recon line close old account or shuffle around credit limits on other chase cards and then were able to get the SW visa.

We received this message as well. Within 48 hours we received a message that said our application had been accepted. Received our card about 3 business days after that!

:cool1: Going to save a bunch of money on our flights! I just got approved; if hubby does, too, that's about $1,200 off our trip we had been budgeting! :cool1:

Just received our CC today! :thumbsup2 When I applied online, the application said I would be automatically enrolled in the Rapid Rewards program. I received our CC and paperwork today, but did not mention anything about our Rapid Rewards membership info. Will I get the info from Southwest in a seperate mailing? I just want to make sure we WILL earn RR as soon as we start using the CC and also get our 50K points! Thanks!.

I had this happen. I called and it was because I had a Disney Chase card too. They just asked how much credit I wanted on each card. So, I had them split it between the two cards. It's more than I need, but I was approved. I'm not sure if you have another card with Chase.

We applied last time, had the card within a week (end of march), bought Disney giftcards at Kroger for fuel points, used the giftcards to pay off our Disney balance. Had the points a few days into May--hit a Southwest sale and all three of us flew round trip first week of June for around 46,000 points. I was planning on buying an embroidery machine anyway, so put it on card too....now we autopay our monthly utility bills to it, our cell phone bill, internet, and all our other regular expenses. Might as well earn points for living life!

I already had a Chase Disney card and was approved for the Chase Southwest card on the spot with a substantially higher credit line than my disney card, which I know its a good thing, but also scary.
