Southwest 50k point bonus back

Just a tip that might have helped DH and I each get a third card (all personal), we each put one of the kids (both teenagers) names as a second card holder on the accounts and they were approved, not sure if that made a difference, but I was shocked that we were each approved for a third time. (previously had one and cancelled it, then got another, so one was active when we received the third)

Thank you for posting this! Was *this close* to getting the Chase Sapphire Preferred, but was trying to hold out as long as possible for the SW 50,000 promo...so glad I did. We cancelled our SW card in April this year and was instantly approved again today!

Ok, so I am basically applying for these cards so we can go to California in a year. We would need 4 tickets. Should I have dh apply for a card and I apply for one or should I apply for both the premier and the regular? I get the companion fare thing, but if it is just for the one trip I don't know if it matters. Due to time, we will probably not be going anywhere else. Thanks!

I just called Chase and they were able to apply the 50,000 promo to my 25,000 promo card. Yay! Only problem is they said it would take 6-8 weeks for the points to appear. ???! I thought I read some people received them fairly quickly.

How long did it take for your points to appear? I am so eager to book my flights!:)

Typically (though ymmv) Chase will honor any new promo within I think 90 days. Send them a secure message through your account saying that you are disappointed that a better promo came out so quick after you applied and see where it gets you. I know quite a few people have had luck with that with both this card and the Disney card (both Chase).

I just called and they are honoring it! I am so excited!!!

Thanks OP for reporting this. I just checked the other day and it was still at 25,000 points. Just got back from Disney last Friday on SW Points from the same promotion. Had cancelled our cards early this year so was not sure if we would be approved. Signed up both myself and DH and we were both instantly approved. Yeah!!! So, happy. Going on a cruise next summer and was waiting on these.

We did take a voluntary bump on our flight home and we all ended up getting $522 each in airfare credits, so have $2100 to use there also. But, has to be used within a year and our cruise will be after that so would not be able to use that for the cruise. So, happy this promo came out again!!! (Now I just have to figure out where to go to use the other flights...such a dilemna)

What would I do without DISboards??? Thank you so much for posting this!!! I was just speculating on whether to wait out for the 50k or go ahead & get the chase sapphire.

Well, I knew my luck!!! Called SWA to ask for the 50k promo yesterday based on a friend getting the targeted email, no luck. So we applied for the sapphire, approved. Then I saw this post - imagine the expletives that rang thru my house LOL but its fine, just applied now for the personal w/ 50k points & all went well. We'll just cancel the other card, thankfully this came out just a day after & before we had a chance to charge anything to it or there may have been breaking noises added to those expletives.

Thanks again, would die (or pay ridiculous amounts of $$ on vacations) w/o my DISboard buddies!!! Hopefully one day I'll become hip enough to help others

Okay, I'm really green at this, so forgive me if this is an obvious question. If I sign up for the SW card now and charge $2,000 on it, how soon would I be able to use my points for flights? We're going on vacation mid-July and still haven't bought plane tickets. Actually, we're not even 100% sure where we're going yet, but that's another story....

Thanks!!

I don't think you will make it...you have to wait for the card to come in the mail, then wait for the billing cycle to end.

let me know if you app for it and what happens. I have the premier but will be happy to get the other one too if it works.

I'm going to wait until the end of the month to apply. I just hit my $2,000 spend and my statement closes on the 20th. I want the first set of 50,000 points to hit my account before I try for another just incase.

Don't cancel your sapphire. It's a great card with another great sign up bonus. It can be transferred so many places. If you can afford to spend and pay 3k for the Sapphire in three months and 2k for the Southwest, keep them both! You already took the small hit on your credit report to get approved so nothing to lose.

I was thinking about it more after posting & considering keeping it, after checking out the fine print on the luggage & trip insurance - might put a small portion of the Disney trip on it just for that if possible. But for the promo points - we can try, but I don't think we can rack up 3k in 3 months without the vacation (which will now be paid mostly w/ SWA 2k requirement), and without creating more debt than normal monthly expenses, which of course we wouldn't want to do. But I'll check it out, maybe my apt will allow me to pay rent via CC... Thanks for the advice! :)

Just so you have some ideas I've been paying for my cell, cable, car insurance, and home insurance for myself and my parents (they give me cash) to help me hit the minimum spend. I make a lot of payments to the card so that I don't sit on the cash and spend it on something else.

Thanks so much for posting this. Hubby and I were just talking bout this. question if I get a card can I use the 50,000 for a ticket for me and one for him? We really don't want to open 2 cards. Also which card is the better deal?

You can use the 50k points however you choose as long as the reservation is under your name. The plus ($69 fee) is a better deal if you don't plan on keeping the card. I cancelled before the next years' annual fee was up and redeemed for $250 amazon + $250 walmart gift card. My wife did the same. So for $138 fee= $1000 in gift cards. Pretty good deal, right. Redeeming for flights is a better deal, but I didn't have any coming up and I knew this offer would come back.

Opinions please...there's not a southwest airline (or its sister airline--I forgot its name), within a 5 hour drive of us. Is this card still a good deal to cash out points for other benefits, or is there another card that would be better? We have USAir, & Delta airlines, & maybe Alligant within a 2 hour drive. TIA

I feel that the Chase Sapphire is a better deal (more flexible ways to spend your points, 2X points on travel, no foreign transaction fees, 7% annual points dividend). You get 40K points (worth $500) when you spend $3K in 3 months. No annual fee the first year, $99 afterwards.

This isn't true. You can make reservations for anyone using your points. I have used my points for other family members and friends multiple times. If they end up needing to cancel their trip the points go right back into your account like normal.
