Southwest 50k mile offer

This is the only part I don't understand. Can you explain how to keep the card active? It isn't simply purchasing something anywhere, you have to do it through Southwest?

Exactly what PP Suyami described. Once the points are credit to your SW rapid rewards account, you have to have some sort of activity within two years to avoid the points expiring. The activity could be buying points, transferring points, buying a flight, anything that adds/subtracts points to the account. If you have cancelled the card you won't be creating "activity" that way, so like many cards, SW has shopping portal that you can go through to make a small purchase to add some points to your account and add another two years of potential inactivity time to your account. You don't have to use your SW Visa to make the purchase, but be aware that if the bonus points don't post correctly or at all, it will be difficult for Cartera (the portal admins) to track your purchase. This has happened to me a couple times.

Then you haven't looked hard enough, most likely because you got your points. The offer is very specific. I just want people to be informed what the offer says instead of just throwing out inaccurate information.

Wasn't "throwing out inaccurate information", but rather reporting MY own personal experience. No need to reprimand me.

Was wondering..... I am interested in obtaining "Companion Pass" status.

I just recently applied for and was approved for the SW Plus card ($69.00). I am working on reaching my $2000 purchase.

Would I be eligible for the Premier card ($99.00)-- which would give me another 50,000 points upon spending $2000 in 3 months. This would give me 100,000 pts towards the 110,000 pts needed for the Companion Pass.

I have no type of business that would enable me to apply for the Plus Business card or the Premier Business Card.

That worked for me :)

Thanks! Used my points from the last offer last week. Signed up for the $69 annual fee one this time. (I canceled the other card months ago because I didn't want to pay $99 annually.)

Okay, another question...I understand that I receive 2 points for every dollar spent on tickets purchased via Southwest, but on the Southwest website I see that I can earn a certain amount (much higher than two points per dollar) with each ticket I purchase. When I hover over a ticket I want to puchased it says "earn X points". What gives?

Are these in addition to my points via the credit card? Are these points only good for tickets purchased for me (and not others as is the case with the credit card).

So confused!

You earn RR points every time you fly (unless you used points to purchase the flight) so that is what you are seeing. And yes, you only earn them on your personal ticket. If you use your cc to buy them, you earn 2 points per dollar on the entire amount.

Questions:

I took advantage of the offer back in March. I want to do it again to get my companion pass.

1. Is the offer still available for the Business Premier card? I saw that a single person can apply for both a normal card and a Business card, thus getting $100,000 points.

2. If not, can I have my wife get a card but apply the 50k points to my rapid rewards number? Or, do the points for her card have to go to a rapid rewards number in her name?

Thanks!

I'm not sure if the business card is still available for the bonus (you could call and ask), but no, your wife can't get one and use your RR number.

If the business card is NOT available, would my best bet to get another 50k be to go for the Plus card offer, and hope that I get the 50k for that along with the Premier that I signed up for first?

It sounds like many people have gotten it for both cards, although it seems to not always work.

Thanks

Yes, that's what I would do.

Is it tough to get approved? I have good credit & never have problems with getting approved since all my cards have been active & in great standing. But in the recent past Chase always denies me (Best Buy, Disney Visa) I don't wanna a mark on my credit report if I will end up being denied or having a limit under the required $2000 for this deal.

I haven't been able to get approved for the chase disney visa but got approved for a substantial credit line with the southwest. Good luck!

If you read the fine print of the offer, I just wanted to throw out that "technically" you are only able to receive the 50,000 point bonus for ONE personal and ONE business card; you "technically" cannot get two 50,000 bonuses for a premier and a plus card. I say "technically" because some people have received two bonuses.....BUT many have not. If you want to take the chance it is up to you; you may very we'll get it! :cool1: It's just that fine print says you can't. Now for all those that will post saying they previously got it with two personal cards, I will respond now by saying this verbiage was evidently added from the previous offer that ran.

Again, I'm not saying you won't get it, but just pointing out that "tecnically" you can't. And NO, just because you are approved for the card does NOT mean you will receive the 50,000 points. Many have met the $2,000 spend and not received the points.....you have no leg to stand on when you look at the fine print at that point to argue why you should have received.

I chose not to chance it and played the "game" differently by getting one personal and one business. You may very we'll get it with two personals, but don't be surprised if you don't.:confused3

The fine print when I applied for my second personal card did say one personal and one business as stated above. However, I wanted to report back and let everyone know that I did receive the 50,000 points for the second personal card and also qualified for the Companion Pass.
