Southwest 50k mile offer

Thank you! So now I have a new question - do transferred points from one SW account to another (ie. my husbands RR points transferred to my RR account) count towards the Companion Pass eligibility?

No, transferred, gifted and purchased points don't count. SW has a couple of rewards programs that I started using, e-miles and e-rewards. You have to click on them from the SW page to make them link correctly. I've already gotten 1000 RR with e-rewards, in just over a month, 500 RR with e-miles.

Can someone explain the companion pass to me?

Basically, if you earn 110,000 RR miles within 1 calendar year, you receive a companion pass that is good until the end of the following year. There are restrictions on how you can earn those miles, the best way being to get 2 CC with 50,000 RR miles each.

I second the e-rewards. I have earned 3000 in the last 3-4 months and it's super easy. I haven't been as impressed with e-miles.

OK, so if I apply for both Plus and Premier, and DH applies for both Plus and Premier, we will each get to Companion Pass level and we can each fly a kid for free until the end of 2015?
Does it take up your 110,000 points to purchase the Companion Pass, or is that just a perk and you can still use your points for flights?
Also can you pay with points for flights when you use Companion Pass?
This seems too good to be true - we're novice flyers but need to make 2 trips in the next year - I want make sure I'm understanding the details of the deal correctly!

Yes, if you are approved for all 4 of those cards and spend the required amount, you can each have one. No, it does not take points to get the pass and yes, you can use points to book your flights. Just using my 110,000 points/companion pass/points from the card (we are using it for most bills and earning about 4000 points a month), we are flying 5 of us RT to Orlando, 3 of RT to Baltimore, and will probably get at least 2 more trips next year!

Does anyone know how you find out what the deadline is to spend the $2000 and what your progress is?

If you read the fine print of the offer, I just wanted to throw out that "technically" you are only able to receive the 50,000 point bonus for ONE personal and ONE business card; you "technically" cannot get two 50,000 bonuses for a premier and a plus card. I say "technically" because some people have received two bonuses.....BUT many have not. If you want to take the chance it is up to you; you may very we'll get it! :cool1: It's just that fine print says you can't. Now for all those that will post saying they previously got it with two personal cards, I will respond now by saying this verbiage was evidently added from the previous offer that ran.

Again, I'm not saying you won't get it, but just pointing out that "tecnically" you can't. And NO, just because you are approved for the card does NOT mean you will receive the 50,000 points. Many have met the $2,000 spend and not received the points.....you have no leg to stand on when you look at the fine print at that point to argue why you should have received.

I chose not to chance it and played the "game" differently by getting one personal and one business. You may very we'll get it with two personals, but don't be surprised if you don't.:confused3

It's three months and you can check your balance online anytime. Keep in mind that the annual fee does not count toward your $2,000 spend limit.

Hmmm, I haven't read any reports of folks not getting it. As a matter of fact, when I was interested in getting the second card I called and the rep told me that they weren't offering the 50,000/2,000 but to sign up for the 25,000/1,000, and when I reach the $2,000 call and they would give me the higher bonus. Worked like a charm and now we both have companion passes :)

Then you haven't looked hard enough, most likely because you got your points. The offer is very specific. I just want people to be informed what the offer says instead of just throwing out inaccurate information.

I don't know if we will use the points right away. I see they don't expire. Do I still need to keep the CC to keep the points? I hate to keep paying the yearly fee if I may not use the points for a long time. Anyone know if you can keep the points somehow if you cancel the card after a year?

You can cancel the credit card at anytime and still keep the points once they are posted to your SW RR account. Chase has nothing to do with SW once the points are credited. Actually, you can even get the 3,000 (plus card) or 6,000 (premier card) annual renewal points and cancel the card at that time and have the annual fee refunded to the card.

Any points in your SW RR account will expire after two years of inactivity. However, you can easily keep the account active by purchasing something small through the RR shopping portal.

Fantastic, thanks!

Can you use some of the 50,000 for a family member's flight or can the miles only be used by the cardholder? Just hoping once we are rewarded these miles that we can use some for our daughter's flight.

This is the only part I don't understand. Can you explain how to keep the card active? It isn't simply purchasing something anywhere, you have to do it through Southwest?

I think they are referring to your Rr account, not the credit card account. You can make a small purchase through Rr shopping to get a few points posted to your account. This will keep your RR points from expiring. You don't have to have a SW VIsa to do this.

Yes, you can use your points to purchase a ticket for anyone. I use mine to purchase for our daughter.
