These people can't be from the South. I was born here and spent most of my life in the South and I have never heard this.

The first thing that popped into my head was Blanche from the Golden Girls but she'd have to fit a whole other category- Tacky Southern Pretending to be Elegant.

Honestly, I think this would be a long soft knit comfortable dress with cute sandals for evening or a sundress in a nicer fabric. I wouldn't wear anything as formal as cocktail attire.

It means,

For men : you got to button All the buttons on the side of your overalls, your Tshirt should have a pocket, wear your Sunday boots, and no ball caps (cowboy hats and stetsons are ok).

For Ladies: Shorts no more than 12 inches above the knee and no writing on the back. Tank tops/tube tops must be yours not your 12yr daughter's, shoes or flip flops must be worn (at least until you get there).

LOL This is how people came dressed to my friends' wedding just last Saturday......and they talked about how hot it was, how they "had to" wear flip flops in Sept and it was just sooooooooooooo wrong.....uh huh what's wrong is you wore them to a wedding......and the wedding was in OR not CA. Yes it was hot but I wore a full length velvet dress with long sleeves, deal with it. lol

OP I'd go with a nicer sundress or a longer skirt/top combo. Enjoy
