Hi, we are booking a trip to DL the first week of Oct. We are spending the first half of our vacation visiting relatives in San Luis Obispo, then traveling to DL. Now my relatives qualify for the southern Cal discounted tickets, but it is my understanding that they cannot purchase them for MY family (from out of state). Is this correct? I just read another thread that someone suggested the in laws buy them southern cal two-fer tickets. So can i use these discounted tickets if my family in CA purchases them or would i need to show a local id for entrance with those tickets??? Thank you!

I'm not sure about the 2fer tickets, but all the other So Cal tickets you could be asked for ID. It's not consistent with every CM, but they could ask you to prove you qualify when tickets are purchased and at the front gate.

You are occassionaly asked to present ID when you purchase the So Cal discounted tickets, but from the point tickets are purchased I've never been asked to present ID. In fact, we just got back from our trip and I purchased a military discounted ticket for my MIL to use and it was printed right on there that it was a military ticket, but she was never once asked to show ID ever when going through the gates, and we went through ALOT!

So, if your family purchases the tickets for you, you should be fine. Just be sure to watch the expiration dates on the tickets because I'm pretty sure the 2Fer tickets are only good through April or May.

This was several years ago, but at that time there was a So Cal resident special and I had a friend visiting. I asked at the ticket booth if I could purchase a ticket for her and they said sure, no problem as long as I could prove I was a resident.

I've never seen the CMs at the gates ask for ID like that - it would slow things down waaaay too much if they did!

Thanks for the input. I did check on the Two-Fer tickets for So Cal and they do expire before our Oct trip. However they do have the So Cal Select Annual Passport that would meet our date requirements, as we will be going during the week. So with these So Cal annual passes, I assume it's the same thing that you guys have already said....id required for purchase (would be purchased by my family in CA, we are all going together), but do they ask for ID's for Annual passes at the gate? It sounds like they don't? How do they prevent people from sharing annual passports, or do they really check? AND if we were to buy the passports, are do they expire one year from time of purchase or from time of first use?

Now, if you buy an AP, you do have to show ID when you exchange your voucher for your plastic pass, where they take your picture and it's right on your AP. That's how they keep people from sharing, so with AP's they do actually check. And your AP's will expire from the date of first use.

A S. Cal AP is completely different scenario. You have to go to the bank on Main Street and have your photo taken for your AP. They will then ask you for proof that you live in the correct zip codes. If you don't -- no S. Cal AP for you.

I've heard that a SoCal resident can purchase up to a certain amount of tickets, I believe it's 5, under their zip code.

You could purchase your passes from local super markets by the way as well. I know Albertson's and Pavilion's both carry the 2fer passses.

Thanks everybody for clarifying the AP's for me. I'm obviously a newbie for DL and clueless! Buying the regular tickets is not a big deal, that was our initial plan anyways. Too bad we aren't going before the 5 day for price of 3 expires:mad:
