We will be taking a road trip from Ohio to Wilmington, NC., in late July to visit my sister. We're also considering driving further south to tour Charleston and Savannah. Our party will consist of my DD13, possibly my DS20, and myself.
We've never been to any of these places before and are seeking advice on where to stay and what to see. Of course, we are hoping to save on lodging and attraction costs with the advice of friendly Disboard peeps!:flower3:

Wilmington is easy-- we'll be staying with my sister.

What about Charleston? I've always wanted to visit there and really want to show my children places other than Florida beaches and WDW. Is there a hotel that you can recommend that is clean, has a pool, is close to attractions and won't be too expensive? Also, are ther any travel deals or discounts for the area that we might be able to use? Are we crazy to visit during late July? It's the only time that we can get away. I know that it will be very hot and humid, so a pool is a must!

I have the same questions about Savannah. Any advice?

Thanks for any help!:flower3:

Welcome to Wilmington! :goodvibes Can't help with Charleston and Savannah hotels - it has been years since we stayed overnight either place. But I hope you enjoy your trip to the Carolinas (and Georgia)! :beach:

My daughter and I went to Charleston in November. Loved it! We stayed in Mt. Pleasant, just over the bridge from the city. It was a 5 minute drive in(unless there was rush hour traffic). We stayed in a Sleep Inn. It was clean, had an outdoor pool(it was a little too chilly for us), and a hot/cold continental breakfast each morning. There are many 2-3 star hotels in the area. It's safe and close.
One of the things we especially enjoyed was an improv comedy show called Theater 99. Tickets were $5 and it was hysterical. I don't know if there is an age restriction. My daughter was 18 at the time. It really was the best $5 I've ever spent for entertainment.
We also bought Rest.com gc's when they were on sale. We had great Southern meals at some nice restaurants that we may not have visited otherwise.
Have a wonderful trip!
