My aunt and uncle will be celebrating their 50th anniversary soon. My father and his siblings have decided to give them a weekend away - hotel for 1 or 2 nights and dinner one night, hopefully for around $400. Now, he wants me to "help" find a place to send them, meaning I have to do all the research! They are late 60s/early 70s, but VERY active! They live in Myrtle Beach, SC so we'd like to send them somewhere within a day's drive of there, but not too much like there. I was thinking maybe Savannah GA or Asheville NC, but they've been to Asheville and are going to Savannah in 2 weeks. They may like either place enough to go back again, but would like other suggestions too. Any direction you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The Greenbrier Hotel in White Sulphur Springs, WV would be my first recommendation for something different and perfect for a 50th anniversary celebration. Very beautiful, great food and tons of activities. A bit pricey though!

Places to also check out are:
The Sanctuary Hotel, Kiawah Island (Charleston, SC)
St. Simons Island (check Trip Advisor for recommendations)
The Lodge at Buckberry Creek, Gatlinburg, TN

The person above has given you some nice ideas, but all of them will be more than $400 that you have budgeted.

I was going to say Biltmore House, but that will also be more as a one night stay is over $200. There are some deals right now through early June that might get you close to the $400 prices, with a nice breakfast (It's really good!), so I'd at least take a look at their website and see. (We did my in-laws 50th anniversary there a few years back and it was wonderful).

Something a bit closer to the budget might be a bed and breakfast in Asheville instead.

My wife and I stayed here a few years back for our anniversary...very beautiful place...very relaxing...went horseback riding...came back...had a massage...great romantic restaurant on site...near Perry, Georgia.

Henderson Village is a collection of 19th century homes and cottages situated on 18 bucolic acres in the heart of Central Georgia and located at what was once a thriving stagecoach intersection.

Our collection of superbly preserved century old dwellings with sprawling verandas and white columns recall the beauty and romance of the old south while providing today's modern comforts of a luxury resort.

My vote is for Savannah, GA. It is a beautiful city and perfect for celebrating a 50 year anniversary.

Colonial Williamsburg, although it may be further of a drive than they want to do - probably 6 hours or so.

That may be true of Greenbrier, but certainly not the other suggestions. The hotel industry has definately felt the pinch of the economy and there are good deals to be had on the other suggestions, less than 400...
just because a place is typically booked and expensive, doesn't necessarily mean so anymore. With some good research and consitent checking, there's lots of beautiful places with good prices now.

Kiawah, St. Simons, Highlands NC, Beaufort SC

Really nice ideas! :)

Thank you EVERYONE for all the great ideas! I'll be doing my homework, checking them all out. It's so nice to be able to come on here and get ideas about stuff not even related to Disney. I'm sure with all these destinations I can find someplace great for them to go!
