We're on the July 22 Iceland cruise that leaves from Southampton, UK and ends in Copenhagen.

Let me start out by saying that our TA is NOT DU. The one we use has done a great job in the past but I'm not thrilled with them this year. Regardless...

Our TA has given us multiple conflicting info on what Disney transfers are available from/to London and Copenhagen hotels that are not at the airports. (We're staying for 3 days in London and 2 days in Copenhagen.) I finally called Disney themselves and found that in central London we can get transport from:

- Hyatt Regency London (Churchill)
- JW Marriott Grosvenor

And in Copenhagen
- Tivoli Hotel
- Copenhagen Marriott

My question for the Forum is, has anyone been given different info from Disney? At this point, with two 2023 cruises with grossly incorrect info from my TA, I'm following up on everything. I'm confident of Disney's info, but not confident enough to not check it.

I've booked the Tivoli and, in London, a Hilton bc we have a ton of Hilton points. We'll take a taxi to one of the London hotels for transport. It will be a Saturday morning and there's no way that the taxi will cost more than the 3 days in one of the above hotels. Quite frankly, I'm hoping that the TA info given to me a couple of weeks ago is correct since that was that Disney transfers were available from a Hilton and that's the one I then booked. Not betting on it though.

TIA.

I don’t know what hotels cost these days, but LHR is pretty far outside London (closer to scenic Windsor). When we went a few years back, we booked a black car (which I believe was competitive with taxi rates) and it was maybe $150USD? I would consider inquiring with one of the highly recommended transfer companies to compare pricing.

We are on this cruise also. We are taking a National Express coach from London to Southampton: https://www.nationalexpress.com/en/destinations/southampton/london-to-southampton It's literally £6.70 per person.

On the way back, we are taking public transport. I posted a recent thread about it here and a couple of people chimed in that they took it and it worked great. If you get the Copenhagen Card, which gives you access to about a zillion museums and attractions, you can get free public transit in Copenhagen. https://www.disboards.com/threads/copenhagen-port-to-city-center-using-public-transport.3909808/

Thanks. We are staying in central London. I will look into a transfer from LHR to London.

We lived in England when we first got married in the early 80’s. we’ve been to London countless times. Reminding me how far LHR is gives me an idea. Maybe we should just stay near LHR and day trip in the countryside. theres still lots to explore in the countryside, but we’ve seen all the big and medium size stuff in London.

That’s so cheap it’s really tempting. We’re perhaps a little more “senior” (mid 60’s) and not so inclined to struggle with bags and multiple modes of transportation No way are we doing public transport in Copenhagen, a city we’ve never been to with a language we don’t speak. But 7 quid to go to Southampton, with taxis on either end is maybe a good option.

This is really interesting have you had good experience with National Express Coach?

This is who we are using from our hotel in London to the port. https://www.twelvetransfers.co.uk/
I used them in 2019 for a British isles cruise to get to the port and they were great. I haven’t planned our Copenhagen to the airport yet but I do have the tivoli hotel booked where the adventures by Disney group stays. My DU TA did give me the same hotels as you had listed and said that last time the Disney transport had issues and was late for pick up by a few hours so arranging our own is probably better than. The cost of the hotels that Disney uses was too much as for our family of 5 we would have needed two rooms. I’m staying with Marriott points instead.

In Copenhagen we just had hotel concierge call us a taxi to the port. I don't remember it being expensive
and it was very convenient.

I just wanted to add that we cruised from Copenhagen in 2018, spending 3 days there before the cruise. Everyone we met spoke excellent English, we used public transit with the Copenhagen Card--train from airport to central station, walked to hotel, buses/trains to visit various sites, and a taxi to get to the port (and Disney transit from port to airport.) I totally get not wanting to deal with multiple modes of transit with luggage though!

I don't think you will encounter a single Danish person in Copenhagen who doesn't speak near perfect English. Do not worry about language problems in Copenhagen! Even most of the signage is in English as well as Danish.

On another thread recently someone mentioned that DCL also offers a shuttle to the train station. If your hotel is close to that, you might want to take that shuttle.

Thanks for the info on National Express! Adding it to my transportation options for our Southampton cruise in August.

Maybe just go down to Southampton directly? There is lots to be seen in that part of the country, too. Salisbury and Stonehenge, the Isle of Wight. I do think then you would need a rental car though.

Will second this. Every person we came in contact with spoke perfect English. My brother joked they
spoke better English than some of the people he worked with.

I don't know if this is helpful at all, but we are on a later DCL cruise that starts in Copenhagen and ends in Southampton. We are staying at the Copenhagen Marriott and I am just going to book private transfers through their concierge - (I've dealt with DCL transfers from WDW to PC and it's nothing I want to experience again). When we disembark in Southampton, we have to go to Heathrow, but we really wanted to see Stonehenge before our flight out, so I booked with International Friends which offers many different types of transfers, hotel packages and day trip opportunities. Perhaps look into their services to see if they may be able to help with your Southampton/London pre-cruise itinerary: https://www.internationalfriends.co.uk

We've had no problems using public transit in cities we've never been to with languages we don't speak. We've used it in Barcelona, Genoa, Rome, Florence, and Venice with zero issues. The signage for public transit is generally super duper clear and if you know what stop you need, it's pretty easy to see where you need to get off. Apps like Google Maps and Google translate make it so much easier. Honestly, the only city I've had issues with was London where I could never seem to figure out which platform I was supposed to be on!

We're actually going straight to Southampton directly from LHR when we get off the plane. We haven't spent as much time in London as you have, but we've been a couple of times and now we're eager to explore other areas. We've booked a tour that goes to Stonehenge and Bath from Southampton the day after we get in and the hotel is so much cheaper in Southampton than in London.

Basically we arrive into LHR early in the morning, take the bus directly to Southampton, walk a few blocks from the coach station to our hotel, do some exploring in Southampton and then the next day Stonehenge and Bath and then the following day get on the ship. I'm pretty excited to see another part of the country, honestly.

At this point, we've "done" pretty much every general area of the UK except the Cotswolds and Cornwall, neither of which can be done justice in a three night stay. I think we're back to staying in London. There's a Curator's tour at the V&A I'm interested in. I thought we could get a mudlarkers' license for a day for the Thames, but they're not selling them right now. We'll find stuff.
