South Korea locks down again...

Reopening nightclubs doesn't seem like it should have been included in initial phases of reopening. Even if social distancing is recommended, I would think that would quickly be forgotten as people become more intoxicated.
I dont think SK were at initial phases though were they?

Point is, you go through all the phases and get some normality back and relax social distancing and then all it takes is one person and suddenly there could be dozens infected again.

Makes me think the R number isnt a reliable measure really.

Five nightclubs in one night, guess I’m old.
Come to Miami. We have some that stay open 24 hours, so you don't have to move around (although they are currently closed and will remain so for a while).

The R number is not a constant. It will vary as people change their social behaviors and as the immunity of the population changes.
Large scale gatherings will drive up the R, not wearing masks will drive up the R. That’s a consequence of reopening. The increase in R can be mitigated by testing, tracing and isolating those infected.

That takes planning. The US isn’t planning.

Well, yes, you and I are probably both old but I'd guess the five-in-one-night thing might have to do with people reveling in their restored freedoms rather than it be a regular occurrence. But then again, back to the being old thing... ;)
This shows that all it takes is one idiot to ruin it for everyone. I'm all for opening everything but only if people can stick with the physical distancing and wear a mask when it's not possible.
Why call him an idiot? :sad2: He was asymptomatic and not breaking any rules. That kind of environment would be impossible to observe proper physical distancing in. This is what will happen when high-occupancy venues open back up. It's inevitable.

He was an idiot for not wearing a mask when everyone else was.
