South Korea locks down again...

My daughter is in grad school in South Korea and this old thread headline appearing just gave me a panic attack. I thought they were in lockdown again.

I'm going to travel to South Korea. What would you recommend?
Recommend: to check what your government advises about travelling to South Korea. Check health & safety measures, vaccinations, passport / visa requirements.

And then into cultural aspects, dos and donts, use of credit card or cash. How much are tourists a target for criminals? What is a small misdemeanor to you and what is it in South Korea, what are the penalties? Are you on medication, can you bring it into the country?

Oh, and whatever you do: do not get near the North Korean border.

The thread is from 3 yrs ago !!! If someone has a question about S. Korea travel they should start a NEW thread.
DIS policy now is to NOT start a new thread but to reply to and existing thread no matter how old. That is why when you try and post a new thread it suggests existing threads to reply to instead of starting a new post. Not shocking as this has been standard policy on other message boards forever, DIS was a holdout. Multiple threads clog up the system unnecessarily.

Please post a link to this "policy". Otherwise, I call BS.

Sam, trying posting a new thread. It pops right up. You owe me an apology. EDIT: Here is a screen grab.photo.jpg

I get your reasoning @tvguy, but common sense has to prevail over rules in this instance.

The only issue of reopening this particular thread is that the title causes chaos and confusion. The smarter thing would be to start a new thread as South Korea isn't currently on lockdown. Clearly you see how people have been confused. Which could've been the new posters intent. Who knows ...

Just my two cents, which is worth exactly that, 2 cents. :)

I guess. But the historic perspective can be helpful too to understand why this change is noteworthy..

Yes, I know they offer suggestions. That does not mean it's a policy.
LOL. Then why did they add this earlier this year if it isn't a policy? It isn't a default.
Maybe because the feature became available earlier this year? Don't know why they added it and neither do you. A "policy" is going to be something written.

FWIW, I'm on other message boards and NONE of them have a "must not start a new thread if one exists" policy. One of them is Cruise Critic. Now, are there boards that have it? I'm sure. But I'm not going to say that MY experience is how it's done everywhere.

What change are you referring to? That's just it, there hasn't been a change. By bumping a three year old thread, it caused confusion for readers. Do you think that's the goal of the Dis?

I’ll give you 4 cents for it … :)

I'm trying to understand. Is there a link to recent lockdowns in South Korea?

When I type it into google, this is what I get

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-...se/how-south-korea-avoided-national-lockdown/

Granted, that article is a few months old, so maybe something new has come up?

Otherwise, if it is general questions about South Korea, why would we use a lockdown thread to discuss this? I understand not wanting to start unnecessary threads, but it seems to me the topic of this thread is locking down, not the nation of South Korea.

That pop-up does NOT prevent you from starting a new thread. Looks more like a 'reminder' in the event you didn't realize a similar thread already exists. The OP 3 yrs ago was asking a S. Korea/covid related question. A recent user is asking about travel to S. Korea................two different things to me that should not be lumped into a single thread to avoid confusion.
