South Beach Dieters......... Unite

I haven't checked in for a while I am on day 18, and I am not sure if I have lost any weight because I don't weigh myself I am going for my physical next week so we will see. But I must say that it is really getting much easier.

Where is your vacation posted? I would like to read how you ate at WDW.

Good afternoon boys and girls!

It's so nice to see our thread so active. As many of you know, I'm on the "stay off the evil scale because the scale is evil challenge" and it's hard, I tell ya' not to weigh myself. This is Day 4 and it's killing me not to know to the 1/2 pound exactly how much I weigh. One of my coworkers just paid me the nicest compliment, she said that every time she sees me, I shrink more and more! That was great because I just saw her last week and she swears I am smaller. Sounds good to me!

panfan - those treats have sugar in them and we're supposed to be cutting out the sugar so it's up to you whether you eat them or not. DH and I eat the no sugar added fudgesicles and our new love the sugar free creamsicles. They also have no sugar added creamsicles and popsicles too. Enjoy!!!! You are doing so well, keep it up! The protein is not a problem, I don't think. Especially if you get plenty of protein during the day. I usually have some sort of breakfast meat in the morning and tuna at lunch.

Cris - glad to hear things are getting easier for you. Please post when you find out how much weight you have lost. We'd love to cheer you on!

ChiTownZee - you can find my trip report on the trip report forum. Do a search with my name and you should find it. It's probably buried by now as that board moves pretty fast. It's called "LC on the DL at the GF" which stands for low carb on the down low at the Grand Floridian. I am warning you now it is very very very long. I had to break it up into 5 parts. So read at your own risk! :hyper: I hope it helps you out!!!

Vicki - welcome to our thread and welcome to the South Beach way of eating! This is a great plan and I know you can be successful. I know what you mean about being in denial. I didn't realize how large I was until I weighed in for the first time when DH and I started South Beach. When my digital scale read 282.5 pounds, I thought I was dreaming (or having a nightmare). I am down close to 70 pounds in 7 months and cannot believe the difference in the way I feel and look! I have a pic in my wallet of me and my little sis at AK last month and I almost cried because I look normal for the first time in my life! This program does work and you will feel so good to get the weight off.

My tips for being successful include:

(1) keeping a journal - I know it sounds silly but I can't tell you how helpful writing down my feelings and the food I eat each day has helped. I keep my journal right here on WISH and get (and try to give) support that is just wonderful!

(2) drink your water - what a difference I have noticed as of late when I get my 80-120 ounces of water in per day.

(3) post to this thread often - the encouragement and inspiration is so valuable in keeping you motivated!

(4) focus on the foods you can enjoy and not on what you are not allowing yourself to have! Don't say, "I can't have that." Instead say, "I am not eating that at this time." It makes it seem less restrictive and like you have the control - which you actually do!

(5) find an exercise routine that you enjoy! I found the Firm work outs and can't get enough! There is even a Firm thread on this board. I hate to even take 1 rest day now and boy have I seen results!!! In addition to the weight I have lost, I have lost 5 pant sizes, gone from a size 9 shoe to a 7-1/2 and have lost close to 60 inches off my body and I know the Firm coupled with South Beach is responsible.

(6) try not to eat late at night and watch the sugar free/no sugar added treats. I lost only 3.5 pounds for the entire month of June (when I was losing anywhere from 6-8 pounds per month on average) but when I cut out the treats, drank my water stopped eating late and watched my portion size, I lost 3 pounds in one week! I was amazed and am a believer in not eating after 9 or 9:30 at night.

I guess those are enough tips. I'm sorry this is so long. I hope something I've shared will help you on your weight loss journey!

Help! I'm on phase 1 of the Beach and can't stomach the V-8 juice. Is there anything else I can have in its place? Does it really make that much of a difference?

What happens if you eat something that's "bad"? Do you instantly gain weight? or just not loose? I want to continue on the beach (can't weight to get out of phase 1 though!) and I understand that this is a great way to eat, but to think that I'll NEVER eat a piece of pie again, because it has white flour and sugar in it is a bit much. Will I be able to splurge on things?

disneyfam-I'm not sure. I hate V-8 juice also. I haven't drnk many juices I must admit. I've never been a big juice fan. However, welcome to the SBD thread. It is a great diet plan to be on

ChiTownZee-No you don't gain weight immediately, but you won't lose very much either. It stalls your system. The whole point is to get the bad things out of your system so that you can continue to burn fat. If you continue to eat forbidden foods, then you won't lose the weight.

OK--as you guys as my inspiration and motivation:D , I finally started the SBD yesterday. It's so nice to know there is a place to come to for support, suggestions and ideas.

Since this is only day 2 for me (DD and DH are doing it for a little while, too although both of them only need/want to lose about 10 lbs.) I'm doing OK so far. The only thing I'm starting to have a bit of trouble with is eating so many darn eggs. What else do you guys eat for breakfast?

TIA!

you don't have to have just eggs for breakfast. You could almost have a lunch or dinner for breakfast if you feel like making it. I know it might be hard sometimes, but it does keep up variety. Salads, chicken, bacon, sausage, and so many other low carb items. Breakfast is really hard to be creative sometimes, but if you can't, you only have to eat them darn eggs for 2 weeks:teeth:

BTW welcome. We love having new people::yes::

dizneyfam - I'm not a fan of the V8 juice either. DH and I tried to stomach it for about a week and just gave up.

ChiTownZee - I agree with Sherry about eating the sugar or flour. I don't look at it as if I will never EVER have an item with sugar or flour in it once I reach maintenance but it will definitely be few and far between because I know it's not good for me, will make me gain weight and that my body doesn't not respond well to processed carbs so they are pretty much out of my life the way I used to eat them (which was all the time). DH and I are planning a 12th wedding anniversary party next year and we have already decided that we will pick up a low carb cheesecake and have that as an alternative dessert so we can have something while everyone else eats cake!

TimeforMe - Welcome and good for you in making it through Day 1. I am an egg lover and could have them almost every day but I do try to vary my breakfasts a bit. You certainly don't have to have eggs everyday unless you just want to and like Sheree said you'll have so many more options once you're off Phase 1. You can do it!!! ::yes::

I admit it. I went off program more than I had planned. I did really good in the beginning, but I had more desserts towards the end. I feel bloated but I only gained 2 lbs. (not sure how accurate that weigh in was as it was the middle of the day). So DH and I are back to Phase 1 for a week or so, just to detox the extra sugars out of our system. I'm not sorry as I enjoyed myself so much. I won't be back to Disney World until next summer so I didn't want to have regrets. And over all, I really didn't cheat that much. I really think some of my gain is actually muscle weight because my pants fit better and my legs look much more toned. I will have to measure to be sure. We did walk an awful lot and I had to push a double stroller. Whew! We were lucky that it wasn't too rainy and we managed to avoid all but one storm. Missed my Dis board buddies. HI to everyone and welcome to the newbies I missed while I was away. Talk to ya soon.

Where do you get that and how does it taste? I'm assuming that even low carb, I shouldn't eat it in phase one or two, right?

Melissa, welcome back. I'm glad you had a wonderful trip.

ChiTownZee, I know that qvc sells low-carb cheesecake. Desserts are allowed, but in phase 2. Phase 1 is really to detox your body, and then as you progress you can add more good carbs back into your system. I know that if you do a search for low-carb cheesecake, you could find a receipe or two if you like making things yourself.

Lots of action on the beach!

dizneyfam- If you don't like the V-8, try the Crystal Light Sunrise Classic orange. It's pretty good for a powdered mix and doesn't taste like Tang. I drink a glass every morning with my vitamins.

Timeforme- Agree about the eggs- I just could not stomach them by the start of the second week- Just breakfast meat is good- bacon, sausage, ham. I even ate ricotta creme for breakfast. My co-worker who is on Atkins, eats almonds or walnuts for breakfast. The two weeks is over before your know it, and then you can start eating high fiber wheat bagel, oatmeal and high fiber cereal.

ChiTownZee- one thing that you find is that the longer you are on the diet, your cravings for these types of foods goes away. Been on SB two months, and at this time, I am so afraid to put that bad food in my system for fear that I will un-do everything that I have worked for so far. As of today, down 18lbs.

Welcome to CoMickey and panfan. The SB group is getting bigger every day, and it's so nice to have so many people for encouragement. There is strength in numbers! ::yes::

Thought that I would share something interesting...Went to my local health food store, and they are totally stocked on low carb food. My question is, if they are taking out all the carbs, why does the food cost so dang much? The prices of these items are outrageous. Low carb granola cereal-$7.99, I guess with the low carb craze, they have a captive audience that will pay these prices. Not me. I am making do with the allowed foods on Phase 2.

Hope everyone had a good week!

Well everyone, today was weigh-in day for me. It was my 3rd week on SB. I had re-introduced some low carb berries (blueberries and strawberries) and had indulged in some sugar free chocolate (ok maybe more than just indulged :( , it's just so good when it's the only thing you can have and the whole bag is sitting right in front of you) anyways, I didn't lose any weight this week. I kinda felt like I didn't. I'm going back to phase 1 for another week or two and I told DF not to buy any sugar free candy for about 2 or 3 more weeks, it is just way too tempting right now. I really need to get into exercising again. So, I have some goals this week...

1. NO SUGAR FREE CHOCOLATE

2. work out 3-4 times for at least a half an hour each session

3. no soda

I hope everyone else had a good week. :D

ChiTownZee - Ruby Tuesday's has the absolute best low carb cheesecake! I mean this stuff tastes like the real thing and I had to grill them quite a bit before I believed it was really lc. At some Ruby Tuesday's you can buy an entire cheesecake. I'm not sure about the one by me but we have a brand new Cheesecake Factory in the area and they have a new sugar free cheesecake and you can get a whole of those so I figure between those two places, we are set for our dessert. I've been eating the lc cheesecake at RT's since I've beeon Phase 2. Yummy!

Melissa - welcome back! It sounds like you had a great trip.

leanne - I noticed the same thing about all these lc products. They sure are expensive!

Hey guys, just an FYI, I went to Friday's the other day with my sister and checked out their Atkins menu. I wasn't impressed. Instead I ordered their chicken and shrimp pasta alfredo and had
them substitute broccoli for the pasta. It was delicious and caused quite a stir! The waitress asked me all kinds of questions about my ordering it and if I would get it again. It was absolutely delicious! It's something to think about, but of course the sauce does have heavy cream and that's not something I would have all the time but it was a good alternative from the usual lean meat and salad meal.

We just got a Ruby Tuesday's around here and I can't wait to go.

Kimmikins, I know it is hard. I sometime overindulge in those treats too. When I do, I definately feel it. I work out harder than usual to make up for my oops!!!

Leanne, I think the low-carb stuff is so expensive because they are making money on us poor low-carbers. Unless it's something I really want, I go natural. By that I mean the diet rather than buying speciality items. Hopefully it won't stay so expensive for long. I think that demand might just drive down price.

Wow! Lots of activity here on the beach... this is great! I love to hear about everyone's experiences on SB and see some of the questions and answers.

ZerasPride - Thanks for all the SB tips. I lurked on this thread here & there before finally deciding it was time to join. Every time I would check back, it seemed like you were grabbing another clippie! You must be very proud.

There are quite of few SB DISers doing a great job on SB, which is a great inspiration to those of us just starting out! This coming Monday, I will begin Phase 2. I stayed on Phase 1 an extra week so am almost done with my first 3 weeks.

See you again soon!!!!!!

I just made a cheesecake yesterday mmmm good, I am getting my recipes off of www.lowcarbluxury.com

Hope you didn't eat to much chocolate with Sorbitol

Hi everyone and thanks for the warm welcome! It always helps to have others in the same boat...errr...beach in this case!

I have lost 4lbs. since Tues. I know it is only water...but whew...at least that number on the scale looks a little better!

The weekends are the hardest for me but I am determined to stay on the SB...it's really not that hard....it's just all in my head!

I have a problem with V-8 too but I'm drinking it anyway. Not much for tomatos at all. It's hard to want veggies in the morning. I am not much of a breakfast eater so that is my goal is to at least eat something for breakfast. Do you think it will hurt my weight loss if I don't eat eggs every morning? I like eggs but this morning they just didn't sound good so I had the V-8 and string cheese.

Also do you all think that drinking iced tea works for some of the water? Or is it better to drink the required water?

Thanks for all of your helpful tips and motivation!

Have a great weekend!

Vicki

Just wanted to post about my day today. Went to the doctor because I have been struggling with allergies and a sinus infection for the past week. The coughing was keeping me up nights and I couldn't take it anymore. Of course you have to weigh when you get to the office, so I stepped on their scale, and it was 13 pounds more than my scale at home. THIS CAN'T BE RIGHT!! So I ask the doctor what my weight was at my last visit in May (right after I started SBD) and the difference was only 3 pounds! My scale says 18! So now I know that the scale in the doctor's office is WAY off. Just to be sure, I take my 8lb dumbell and place it on my home scale, and sure enough, the scale is right on the money.

Been flirting with high blood pressure for a while but was resisting going on medication. I thought that with the diet and exercise I could bring it down, but no luck. I had to start on medication. I'm hoping that when I hit goal, which is another 22 pounds, that I can get off the meds. We'll see. Right now my health is the big concern, so I'll do whatever it takes.

Hope everyone has a great week-end!
