South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Thanks for the tip on southbeachdiet.com. Has anyone signed on for the $5 per week? Is it worth it? My DH is allergic to monthly payments so I really have to scrutinize before I hop on board.

DS and I are on track to start tomorrow. I weighed in at 159 this AM. Our scale is probably 3-5 lbs under so I have figured a starting weight as 163. I would like to be 135-140.

Has anyone purchased the SBD cookbook? I am thinking of purchasing this today, mainly for the information up front, though I am sure the recipes will be helpful as well.

IMGONNABE40!- I was a member for a while. It was great during the first few months for me onthe diet. After that I just figured I could do without it. I began to do really well without it. However, it is great for updates to the diet and new news.

I don't have the cookbook. I do have the small companion book though. There are so many low-carb cookbooks out there that you don't have to have the sbd one.

It's been kinda quiet here, I hope everyone is doing well. I am still on the no scale challenge. Since I am not on the scale I watch very carefully what I eat and I am exercising like crazy. I wish everyone well!!!

It has been quiet here. Was up late last night and will be again tonite too, for a work project. We start at 9:00pm and end at 5:00am. I stayed awake last night by drinking my water, and eating SBD friendly snacks.

Still looking for the 20 lb clippie. Weighed this morning, and I have about 1 more lb to go. This one is the hardest yet for me. I envy all of you that are on the stay off the scale challenge. I could not do it, being so close to the next milestone.

DH is doing excellent on the diet. He is down about 35 lbs. I am so proud of him!

Imgonnabe40- I have the SBD cookbook. It has some great recipes and has been a help in trying to get some variety in our dinners.

Have a good week-end everyone!

Today is day one of Phase 1. So far so good. I cannot figure out how I am supposed to eat 2 snacks and another meal today--It is already 4:30 PM. I am surprised how sated I feel. DS started today as well. He just left for the swim club. I sent along a snack of 2% milk cheese cubes and two slices of lean ham. I should also take a walk today. Perhaps a mile or two to jump start things.

Well, just checking in to say...I have finally joined you on the beach and really am enjoying it here.

Everytime I post about the scale not moving, shortly after that, it moves, and I am proud to claim my 20lb clippie today!!! :bounce:

imgonnabe40- Great first day! This is the beauty about SBD. I never feel hungry or deprived. Had previously been on WW and HATED the counting, which is another good reason why I love SBD.

Starting my 3rd month, and still willing to continue on. I have not been this weight for over 5 years. I still have 20 more to go, and I am confident that I will make this goal. Sometimes when I look in the mirror, I can't believe that I am starting to look skinnier.

Hope everyone has a great week!

IMGONNABE40!- great start. You do feel full. I never did get in the snacks when I started either.

leanne2255- congrats!!!! WTG. 3 months and you probably already can't believe what thype of progress you've made.

Hi everyone!!

Wanted to post that I made it through my first week on SBD - lost 3 1/2 lbs--wish it had been more, but am happy with this. This week WILL be better - I just know it!!!

I'm surprised that I'm not craving the sweets - I have a huge sweet tooth which always seems to be the downfall for me. I had a meeting on Tuesday (day 2) and someone brought Kaluha Chocolate cake (that smelled WONDERFUL!!), but I didn't take a piece! I was very proud of myself.

Hope everyone has a great Monday!

mishoe01-3 pounds is not bad for the first week. I lost 9 in the first 2 and I think that's pretty much standard depending on how much you need to lose. WTG on staying away from the dessert.

Have a great day everyone

What encouraging news, mishoe and leanne225! Weigh to go! ;) I am going to stay off the scale until at least Saturday, I hope.

So this is Day 2. I had two hard boiled eggs for breakfast along with a V-8. DS also had two hard boiled eggs, but skipped the V-8 and had 2 MorningStar Farms "sausage" patties. My breakfast was at 8AM, and by 11 I was pretty hungry so I had 15 cashews! Cashews! On a diet! Unbelievable.

Anyway, yesterday, although I had sent along a snack to the swimclub with DS, he left the cheese in favor of buynig a Twix bar at the snack bar. When I explained that SBD would not work if he kept eating sugar--especially in Phase 1, he said he wanted to read the list of what he could and could not have for himself. We did that during dinner last night. So today, he went to a class and the teacher gave out mini twix bars and fruit roll-ups for snack. It was the first day of the class, and we did not know that the teacher would do this. I had sent along a snack for him and today he ate that and brought home the twix and roll up! I hope his will power holds up the rest of the week while he is in the class.

Can't believe I'm not missing bread! Oh, and I finally got back to walking yesterday. I did about 2 miles with 2 lb hand weights.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Hey everyone. My goal for this week is to stay off my evil scale, excercise everyday, and to eat no desserts. I want to take off as much as I can as I will be going down to the beach in a few weeks and I want to look as good as I can in a suit. I also want to take no chances as I avoid the scale. I am so fed up with the up and down, it really messes with my mind. So, I am staying off the scale for the next 2 weeks- I might have to weigh after that, but we'll see. Trying to be strong, need encouragement this week. Way to go to everybody. Keep it up!

Hi fellow Beachers!

It sounds like everyone is doing so well!

mishoe01 - congrats on making it through your first week. Also congrats on the weight loss during the first week. You are doing a great job!

IMGONNABE40! - you and your family are doing so well. It must be hard for your son but it sounds like he is hanging in there. All of your hard work is going to pay off! I can't believe either all the wonderful things you can eat on this plan and still lose weight.

Melissa - you know we will be here to support you. As I go into Week 3 of the stay off the scale challenge, it's getting tough. People keep telling me at work that they can tell I've lost weight from just last week but I can't find out how much because I'm not getting on the dang scale. I'm glad I did this challenge, but it's definitely one that I will be happy when it's over so I can see what tangible progress I have made. We can do this though, we give that stupid scale too much power over us sometimes!

My goals for the week are to:
1) stay away from the scale
2) work out every day
3) watch my portion sizes, especially at dinner

I gotta fit comfortably into this beautiful designer black suit I bought Saturday. It's a size 16 and fits snugly. What is really exciting for me is that just 8-1/2 months ago, I was wearing a size 26/28. When I went shopping in addition to the suit I bought a pair of jeans in a size 14 and for the first time in my adult life (I'm 37), I bought a beautiful peach short sleeved top from a "regular" clothing store in a large! I wanted to shout from the rooftops because before SBD I was wearing size XXL and XXXL tops. I just love South Beach and the Firm!!!! Woohoo!!!!

Anyway, I need my suit to be a bit more comfortable so I can wear it to a function at the end of the month. So, I need support to keep pushing full steam ahead from my SBD/WISH buddies!

Hi! Question about breakfast on the SBD. I'm in my fourth week of the diet. Is it better to eat half an apple with natural peanut butter or a whole apple without the peanut butter. I'm not concerned about being hungry before lunch because I never snack before lunch and my lunch is pre-planned (I'm at work - no place to find food to cheat on). I'd prefer the whole apple but didn't know if this was too much natural sugar.

Thanks!!

Yesterday marked first week on SBD for my entire family...

We all lost 6lbs + apiece!!

I lost 6 - 7 lbs depending on if you believe my scale.. laugh..

We are thrilled...

Last night we had sirloin steak off the grill, pretend mashed potatoes and broccoli w/a little fat free melted cheese (this does NOT work wonderfully.. laugh) - I still feel stuffed.. yuck... Don't want to eat any breakfast, as it feels like the steak is still in my stomach.

Had an appointment with my Dr yesterday - she was THRILLED with my weight loss!! She advised - as we go into Phase II - to not be as careful on the weekend. She found she loses as much, but NEVER feels deprived. In other words.. If you want a piece of birthday cake - do it.. just make sure it's a little piece.. :p She's been doing this and has lost 15 lbs or so - of course she didn't have 75+ to lose like I do.. :earseek:

Congrats to all on their progress!!! It's pretty exciting isn't it?

Carole - congrats on being in week 4 of South Beach! Have you been adding fruit back to your diet? I know when I first started to add fruit and yogurt (back in the day when we couldn't have have yogurt on Phase 1) I found it so sweet that I actually had the shakes from the natural sugar. Bizzare I know. I would start off with half the apple and the peanut butter just to see how your body reacts to it. Then work your way up to the entire apple. But if you don't feel any ill effects go for the whole apple. Enjoy!

pamlet - your family lost almost 20 pounds collectively! That is just wonderful. Congratulations to you all!!!! I agree with you about your doctor's statements, I needed to lose a total of 140 pounds to get to my goal. If I "took it easy" on the weekends, I'm sure I wouldn't be down about 70 pounds now. You just have to figure out what is right for you and do it. Congratulations again on your weight loss!!!! You guys are doing great, keep it up!!!!!

Is there a "procedure" to get the W.I.S.H clippies? I can figure out HOW - but wonder if I have to register it somewhere?

Thanks!!!
Pam

carole, lisa gave you some good tips, there's not anything I can add to it.

pam, how awesome for you and your family. You all must be feeling extremely terrific. WTG:jumping1:

Thanks guys!!

We're feeling WONDERFUL... well other than missing bananas I'm ok.. laugh.

I'm really hoping once we go to phase II it won't be as discouraging...

The upside is we're trying new ways of preparing things... and I never thought in a million years I'd hear my guys ASK for cauliflower... :earseek:

Hello, all you trusty Beachers! Sorry I've been a bit absent -- we leave for our vacation on Friday, and I've got just one or two or a quadrillion things to do still. But I've been checking in to see everyone's progress, and I just had to send out some cheers!

ZerasPride, that suit is going to be smoking hot on you by month's end! I am blown away by how well you've done -- 5 dress sizes! That's tremendous! What an achievement! What you said about shopping for a normal size completely hit a chord with me -- before I launched my own weight loss journey, I could barely find a thing that fit in a regular store, let alone flattered. The first time I could buy clothes right off the rack that made me go 'Woo-hoo!,' I was walking on air for days. You keep right on doing just exactly what you're doing, because the results are amazing!

Leanne2255, NICE clippie!! Fabulous! Congralulations!

Mishoe01, great first week! It's a glorious side effect of this way of eating that as long as you stay away from sugar, you won't crave it. You're doing great!

Carole, whether you eat a whole or a half apple, I wouldn't lose the peanut butter. Fat slows digestion, so the sugars in the apple hit your bloodstream more slowly and steadily, and keep your blood sugar from spiking.

Pamlet, congratulations on your family's loss! It must be wonderful to be doing this together, supporting each other every day! Good job! The clippies are for you to collect when you know the time is right. There's no registering necessary -- go collect your first one, you've definitely earned it!!

I may not be able to check in again before we go, unless I finish all of my projects early and have some time on my hands (BWAAHAAHAAHAA, must wipe this tear of hysteria from my eye), so I just ask for some pixie dust to help me stay OP while I'm gone. Vacations tend to throw me for a loop, but I was at WDW in January in my third week of Atkins, and I stayed strong. I'm hoping for the same this time around, too.

See less of y'all when I get back! Can't wait to hear how it's all going for everyone!
:goodvibes :goodvibes

Thotfulspot- Just wanted to say "Have a great vacation". I know you'll stay pretty much OP, because you have already come so far.

Day 3 on the beach is winding down and I am feeling good. No cravings--I can't believe that one! I overdid it on the nuts today. Had 15 cashews for an AM snack, then, since we had contractors in the house, we were off our dinner schedule. Since I had not had a PM snack, I had another 15 cashews (I took the big container and broke it down into several ziplocs with 15 cashews in each bag) because it was quick and easy to do with my kitchen full of electricians.

DS and I both had 2 egg omelettes with lowfat cheese. I had roasted red peppers in mine and DS had a vegetarian sausage product in his. For lunch we had tuna salad rolled in lettuce leaves and pickles. For dinner we had cod filets that had been tossed with taco seasoning and prepared on the grill pan (very tasty) and some spinach. DS said he was still hungry, so he had a few slices of ham rolled around fat free cream cheese with mustard. Now that I think about it, I did not check to see if the cream cheese contained sugar. I will have to look into that.
DS always has a very active day, but I did not get out for my walk today. Better luck tomorrow on the nuts and the walking.

Congrats on the weight loss everyone! Thanks for keeping the thread going. It sure is encouraging to hear about how all of you are doing.

Christine
