South Beach Dieters......... Unite

Hi everyone, I'm on Day 1 of Phase 1 of the SBD. So far so good. I have done it before for a short amount of time - stuck with it with success, but little things here and there would cause me to fall off of it and eventually I stopped it.

I know quick weight loss is not necessarily healthy but that is what appeals to me about this diet. You can see results right away which is very motivating for me to continue on. I'm visiting an old friend who I haven't seen since last Feb in 2 weeks so hoping for a 10 lb loss by then and then in mid-July, I'm going to the Keys for a long weekend. Would like to be thinner for that as well. And in general, I just need/want to drop weight. My weight as of this morning was 203.4. My dream would be to be at 190 when I see my friend.

Welcome Shannon. Nothing wrong with trying to lose some pounds before you see someone. That's partially what started me going was a wedding coming up where I was to be the Maid of Honor. I hung in there and now for 2 years, been living at my goal weight. Keep us updated and don't hesitate to ask any questions!

I did great yesterday foodwise, on Day 1 of Phase 1 but I did encounter a problem. I went to bed normal as usual and around 1:30/2:00 I woke up incredibly nauseous. I went to the bathroom, laid back down, went back to the bathroom and eventually got sick. I NEVER throw up. Ever. I have no idea what caused it because now I feel almost back to normal appetite wise. But I didn't follow the plan today though. The idea of eating the foods that made me sick the day before wasn't really appetizing. My mom thinks it might be that I ate more fat than I usually do but what she doesn't know is that I'm a self diagnosed binge-eater and I have actually eaten more than I ate yesterday and never gotten sick from it. Has this happened to anyone else or do you think it was just a fluke thing? Either way, I'm taking a break from SBD - I'm still trying to avoid a lot of sugar, breads, pasta, etc but I am eating fruit. Basically just a healthy overall diet. I will report back though if I decide to head to the beach!

It's never happened to me before at all. Headaches, I've had them, the getting sick to my stomach that badly, no. However many say their stomachs feel funny after 2 or 3 days I guess because their bodies are getting rid of the sugar and trying to adjust to the different way of eating. I hope it goes away and you might be able to come back on the plan.

Yeah. Like I said in my first post, I had tried SBD a couple of times before and Atkins awhile ago never with this sort of reaction. But even though it probably was totally unrelated to SBD, it did sort of turn me off of it for the time being. It's kinda disappointing though. Just weighing in today from yesterday I was down 2.5 lbs.

Question for cereals for phase 111 -- what about the whole grains cereals like Cheerios?

And what do you think of the South Beach cereal I saw yesterday?

What cereal do you guys eat?

Cereals I have eaten on Phase 2 are All Bran, South Beach cereal, Uncle Sam and Cheerios. The south beach cereal is pretty good - there are a couple of them out there (don't remember the name of the one I've had at the moment) I'll have to look it up ! Giving up my morning cereal was the toughest part of phase 1 for me so that was one of the first things I added back in after the first 2 weeks

Hi everyone! I am new to the thread..I started phase 1 today. I am waiting for my SB book to come in the mail and I need some tips on what to eat in phase 1. I have some limited info I printed from a website. Any help would be great! Thanks!

Hello and welcome disneychick05! I hope that you stick around and let us all know how you are doing with your progress. Here is a link I posted a page or so back. If you click on it, it will tell you the list of foods that are acceptable for phase 1.

Well, I'm guilty here. Took my four kids to the mall and as a tradition we always to Auntie Em's pretzels and I bought a WHOLE WHEAT pretzel. I know is a big no-no during phase 1. My scale is going to punish me.

Thanks for the advice on the cereal. I'll try the south beach cereal later on.

Hi everyone,

I am back at the Beach now, after quite a few months of eating badly. My motivation to lose is the Disney cruise we're taking next spring. I want to enjoy seeing myself in all those photos, and not run from the camera. :teeth: I did South Beach last spring, for about 2 months, and lost around 20 lbs. I still have a bit more to lose, and I'm determined to do it. I started Phase 1 last Tuesday. So far, I've lost 5 lbs. As for exercise, well, I haven't started yet. I'll probably do WATP in the evenings. Our DD is 4, and she loves to imitate, so hopefully she'll do exercises with me.

Today I went shopping & loaded up on fresh veggies. I've been a veggie snob my entire life. Why, I'm not sure, but there were a lot of things I never tried & just assumed I didn't like. Last week I decided to try raw cauliflower & raw broccoli, dipped in a bit of SB friendly ranch dip. To my amazement, I actually liked it. I prefer the cauliflower though, but atleast that's one way I can get my vegetables - dipping them. I've tried those 2 cooked in various ways, but the smell just turned me away.

This week will be week 2 for me of Phase 1. I plan on taking all the produce home, washing & storing in snack baggies so I have no excuses not to grab it in the mornings while getting ready to pack lunch/snacks for work.

Just this morning I was packing lunch, and reminded myself I'm not going to be really overweight, later on battling diabetes & other diseases, just because I can't put down a cookie. :) I am determined to make it work, and my body better just hang on, it's going to be a new adventure.

Wow~I am glad to find this thread! :cool1: I went to see a new Dr on Friday and she suggested SB to me. I have only tried WW over the years with no luck :guilty: I have 100 to lose but I would be happy with 80. SB looks like a tough lifestyle change but if done right it could work. I have 14 months to get as much off as I can. I want to look like me again on our next Disney vacation. I was the girl on the boys varsity soccer team in highschool and I have blown up ever since graduation.

I have ordered the book to help guide me through it. Are there are free websites with a lot of good info anyone uses? I have looked at the offical one but I thought there had to be something out there similar for free. Otherwise I will be signing up.

My one fear is we eat out a lot and with WW I knew what I could have. This is a whole new ball game for me.

So if you don't mind I am going to pull up a chair and join you on the beach.

Hi all
Last year, I bought the South Beach book but never got serious. Ended up losing some weight and maintaining through exercise. Then I stopped and I feel like I've exploded. I need to lose about 30 pounds to be at my best, although 20 would probably work out okay.
I started Phase 1 yesterday. I understand the allowed food. What I'm struggling with is portion size. I don't know how much I should be eating. I'm guessing using weight watchers serving sizes. I joined southbeachdiet.com and I've searched the book but can't find a straight answer. Any advice?

Hi Pixiechick and welcome to the Beach !!

I'm not sure what the true "south beach" answer is for this, but one of the things I loved about this program is that I didn't have to count points, or weigh my food etc. I just ate portions of the right foods to be satisfied - like for dinner a piece of chicken and some veggies, with sugar free jello for dessert. There are certain things I know that specific portions are given for (snacking - 20 peanuts, pasta - 1/2 cup, etc) and if I ate any of those items I followed the recommendation. If you're looking for more structure, I'd say anything you're eating that comes with a nutrition label go by their recommended serving size. Meats I think they say the portion is a size of a deck of cards or the palm or your hand. Hope that helps a little..........
