South Beach Dieters Thread ??? Anyone???

I'm doing a kind of Atkins meets South Beach kind of thing. It was working great until this last plateau. *sigh*

I also keep South Beach bars in a basket on the kitchen counter for my non-breakfast eating family. They all agree that they are the best tasting ones.

I don't eat the SBD products. I did buy a box of them once...it was the rice krispies tasting one. Very good, but not good for my diet.

I also got addicted to Slim Fast chocolate shakes. Ha! I've moved to sugar-free Hershey's chocolate syrup and sugar-free fudgesicles.

I didn't know Hershey's made a sugar free! :thumbsup2

I am getting so tired of lettuce & celery. I really don't think I can make this a "lifestyle" habit. :(

There are lots of food on the P1 and P2 lists you can eat. Have you taken a look at that?

Happy June every one. I'm considering trying the SBD, but am looking for tips and suggestions from you veterans. What worked well or didn't work well for you? I'm a busy mom who's eating habits are getting worse. I eat too many fillers ( such as popcorn), drink sodas (diets), and my timing for eating is off. I do exercise outside of doing mom duties, but my weight is still sticking. I look forward to catching up on this thread and reading new posts. :goodvibes

Am I supposed to be eating egg whites only? Or should I be eating Egg Beaters? I'm trying to do this diet on my own and I already feel like I'm not doing it right. :(

I'm working on day five of Phase 1. However, if I'm not doing this right, I may have to start over.

Hi LittleBlue22 -

I am on Day 4 of week one - so I am definitely NOT the expert here . . . but it looks like it's just us!

I don't believe you have to eat only egg whites or just egg beaters. I believe whole eggs are just fine. I have not purchased the book, but found a couple of links that I've referred to for reference. Let me know if you want them - and I'll post them here. One is for the South Beach forum and another is for a SB forum from the ivillage website. I also found a good blog that has lots of recipes.

I'd like to lose maybe 40 lbs. I've done WW maybe three or four different times, and always quit before losing more than 8 lbs. Once I only lost five lbs, the other time only 8 - then I just give up.

Good luck!

I think you are right, it sounds like it is just you and me. :yay: If more would post, that'd be awesome too (hint, hint ya'll) .:thumbsup2

I don't have the SBD books either, but like you, I have lots of website links saved. I'll be happy to post what I've found. I'm on day seven and have lost 7lbs. doing this on my own. I tell ya, I was about to loose my mind on day two due to lack of bad carbs.

I was bad this weekend and had rice (sushi rolls):rolleyes1 and a sliver of cake yesterday :rotfl2:. I'm going to try walking those calories off tomorrow.

Hahaha, we can compare weblinks, awesome :goodvibes.

6/8/09 Here's the weblinks I've found so far from this thread and on my own:

found an article on good carbs vs. bad carbs- http://www.goodcarbs.org/good-carbs-article.html

I'm going to check those links out. I had read some good things about sparkpeople so am interested to see what that is about.

The only two sites I've used are both forums:

and the official SB website forum

I like this food list

While there is lots of information, I'm still reading posts and trying to do the best I can. I'm having headaches and yesterday felt nauseated. I also don't like having to cook every night. That is usually something DH will do, but if I leave it to him, we will have some wild game out of the freezer cooked in a delicious gravy or maybe fried!!

You are so right, my dh has very little sympathy toward my diet needs too. I'm the one who has to make the meals. How'd you do today?

My 22 yr old wants to follow the plan (or at least attempt to) - so she asked me to take her to the grocery store. $150.00 later and I am back home. . . Gee, why do I do some of the things I do?

Before I left, I cooked four turkey patties to have for when we returned. As I was bringing the groceries in from the car, DH informed me that the supper I had prepared was no longer there. My dog managed to jump up on the snack bar, and eat the patties (all four of them) straight from the skillet. UGH!

The foods I've been eating are all acceptable foods, however they haven't been what I would really call a meal.

some of my quick favorites: nonfat plain yogurt (yuck!) flavored with a sprinkling of sugar free strawberry jello.

sauteed zucchini or squash, mushrooms, maybe even onions, a little cut up turkey sausage and add beaten eggs. I don't try to make an omelet, but just stir it up and eat.

Last night I made tunafish with a little mayo and boiled eggs and added cut up cherry tomatoes and diced cucumbers. It was filling.

Just finishing up week one and the scales show I've lost 5 lbs. My scales aren't the nice digital ones-makes it hard to tell anything between a 0 and 5 on those scales.

How was your first week?
Do you have any good food choices for me?

Hi kaguilbeau, I was writing a long reply and my computer just ate it, sorry. I'll have to rewrite my reply later. :(

In the mean time, are there any other SBD out there? :sail:

Don't you just hate that!

Last night was our anniversary and my DH took us out to eat. I tried, I really did.

But there were four croutons on the salad that I refused to pick off, the cheese in the salad was NOT reduced fat (I'm almost sure of it!). I had the chicken breast with melted cheese (again, NOT reduced fat!) and a side of steamed veggies (that had carrots in it).

So, yes, I ate the croutons, ate the cheese and ate the carrots - and I'll live!

Hooray!:dance3: *I ask myself the same thing, a lot.

Oh no! We're they hot? sorry about your dinner, what'd you end up doing instead?

I totally agree with you on this. I find myself snacking and eating more frequently than anything. Does that make sense?

some of my quick favorites: nonfat plain yogurt (yuck!) flavored with a sprinkling of sugar free strawberry jello.
I bought a small container of plain yogurt and sugar free jello mix b/c you mentioned it. :) I tried it yesterday after I got home, not super thrilled about it,but it was different.

sauteed zucchini or squash, mushrooms, maybe even onions, a little cut up turkey sausage and add beaten eggs. I don't try to make an omelet, but just stir it up and eat.
Love Scramlets, that's what we call them at our house. I like putting fresh salsa on top. Pico de gio mixed in would be yummy too.

Last night I made tunafish with a little mayo and boiled eggs and added cut up cherry tomatoes and diced cucumbers. It was filling.
I've got to try that even though I'd be the only one eating it, sounds yummy :)

Congrats on the 5 lbs . I don't have a digital scale either.

How's your headaches and nausea? Are you feeling better?

My first week? I haven't budged on the scale, but I can tell a difference in my shorts around the waist. I'm still at the 7lbs down mark. I don't think I can go back to eating noodles (of course in time who knows), but I had some noodles at TGI Fridays (when my husband discovered I was on a diet b/c I told him no steak for me). I was up most of the night wallowing with tummy pains (gas) and frequented the restroom more than usual.

I completely understand about going out to eat. I tried picking the best thing on the menu, but its not like you can ask for all the components of the meal alacarte or the sauce on the side. :rotfl2: I had chicken, shrimp, fettuccine noodles, and a white sauce with a glass of water.

I like eating cottage cheese with sliced tomatoes on top; sauteying veggies is awesome, I like to do that too; low fat string cheese; stripped down chef salad; fish- love it when I can get it; grilled chicken breast; I haven't had a BLT in a while, I just need turkey bacon. I love the 7 layer chicken salad so hope to make that soon with lite mayo and no peas. If I have a burger, I'll eat the meat only. Veggies seem to be my favorite to eat and its one category of food item my kids won't fight me over.

I hope you are having a great day:goodvibes

:sail: The search continues for other SBDers out there :sail:

I'm down a total of 8 lbs now. :cool1: and I can say bye, bye to phase one tomorrow. :wizard:

Any other SBDers out there? Let's get chatting! :sail:

That's fantastic! I'll take 8 . . or 9 . . or 10 . .

I'm missing not having digital scales - all I can tell is my loss is somewhere between 5 - 10 (so I say 7). At least I won't be scrutinizing over every pound - and I can just call it in 5 lb incremints.

Are you going to go full force into Phase 2? I read somewhere where some people will pick one or two items to add at a time - and eat those items in addition to the phase 1 items for a week - then add two more.

I'm not exercising like I should. The headaches & nauseau only lasted for the first week - so that's good.

Hello kaguilbeau and other SBDers out there
How's your week going so far kaguilbeau? Could I suggest that where ever you go, go faster while you walk? I tend to zip through the store when I go grocery shopping and I try and park some what of a distance to make myself walk further.

I haven't budged either direction on the scale which is good and bad. I haven't had time to read about phase two b/c I was so focused on phase one :rotfl2:. I finally read info on it this morning. The item I'd like to add back to my life is fruit. I love fruit! I guess I'll have to eat 'em in smaller quantities. I'd love to make a strawberry pie :goodvibes, but I don't bake.

I think I did a pretty good job on phase one except for the lunch I had with hubby and snacking on on a few chips. I am hoping my body will want to burn more tummy fat, that'd be awesome.

Take care of yourself and I can't wait to hear more about how you are doing. :goodvibes

Hey there - I moved myself into Phase 2. Just a few days early. We ate dinner last night at a deli - about the 'best' thing I could find was a turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread. That was when I decided to just add wheat bread a couple of days early - and I began phase 2:rolleyes1

Life just trucks on along.

We are going camping this weekend - first camping trip since I started SB. My usual camping snacks are chips and dip and the occasional honey bun for breakfast. This will be a challenge!

Just to show how pathetic I am . . . I was looking at the homepage to the DIS boards and considering how nice it would be to attend Disney during Free Dining. I've never gone during Free Dining . . . and I do have a a50th birthday coming up in August . . . and what if I found a couple of friends to go with me and help celebrate . . . and we could have free dining . . . and then I could eat all the sinful things I shouldn't be eating and do it three times a day!!

Anymore SB followers?? We'd love to hear your voice here.
