Hi all,

Saw someone mentioned this diet one here a few days ago - so I went out and got the book and started on Sunday, now on day 4 and have lost about 5 lbs and feel fab - my clothes all fit better I am not hungrey and am not missing crabs at all.

Would recommed this over Atkins as alot more low fat.

Good luck to all
Nat

Hi Nat!

I just started the SBD on Monday. I'm on day 3 and it's been going pretty well. I think this is a diet I can stick with, without being hungry all the time! I love the fact that eventually we'll be able to add "good carbs" (whole grain pasta, bread, etc.) back into our diet over time.

I joined online and have been using the message boards and other tools over there. It cost just a bit more than buying the book (which I don't have) and since I spend a lot of time online at work, I thought I'd use it more having it right at my fingertips.

Congrats on losing 5 lbs. - that's great! I snuck on the scale this morning and it looks like I'm down 2 so far, but I know that might fluctuate a lot. I don't have too much to lose (about 10 lbs.) so I have a feeling it will come off slowly.

Hang in there & keep me posted on your progress!

:D

Glad you're having such great results!

I've been on South Beach about 7 wks. I find it easy to stay with. I've never eaten alot of high fat foods. I'm a big carb eater though. I find now that I'm in phase 2, the oatmeal, high fiber cearel and fruits that are allowed, take care of my carb wants. I don't miss bread, potatoes and pasta. Once I reach goal I'm not sure I'll bother to eat them.:D

I don't have too much to lose (about 10 lbs.) so I have a feeling it will come off slowly.

I'm finding that to be true. I want to lose 18 lbs. I've lost 13 Lbs. so far. I only lost 6 lbs. the first two weeks in Phase 1. The book says 8-13 lbs is normal.

I'm starting SB today - maybe you guys can help me!? The bookstore was out so I've ordered the books online and they won't be here for a few days. I have info from prevention.com though.

Have you come up with any favorite meals yet? I'm on my way to the grocery store later today. My biggest challenge right off the bat is our camping trip this weekend. I figure I'll pretty much stick to meat, salad, and mozzerella cheese, but if anyone has easy ideas let me know!

I know it's going to be tough passing up s'mores, but there always seems to be some occassion that keeps me from starting and I simply can't put it off any longer!

I am so glad I found this thread - I came on to post about SB diet and here you already were!

Diane,

I can't wait to reach Phase 2!! I made my son some oatmeal for breakfast this morning and I came this close to taking a bite. It smelled so good! Breakfast seems to be the hardest meal for me since I've never been an egg lover and I used to always have something sweet (usually sweetened oatmeal)

13 lbs. in 7 weeks is great! I hope I have those same results. I do have a question - when you started Phase 2, did you add your carbs slowly and have 1 a day or how did you do it?

Thanks and keep up the great work! :D

Disykat,

Your food ideas sound good to me. Meals haven't been much of a problem for me so far - I've been cooking pretty much the same just not eating the potatoes, etc. that the rest of my family has. Grilled lean meat/fish with lots of veggies (love roasted eggplant & zucchini!). Finding a variety of snacks has been a bit harder. Here are some ideas I found at the SBD website:

String cheese
Pistachios (allowed 30 per day)
Laughing Cow Cheese with celery (haven't been able to find this cheese)
Hummus with veggies (good with cucumbers, red bell pepper strips)
Sugar Free Jello w/ 2 T. Light Cool Whip
No Sugar Added Fudgesicles or Popsicles

There is also a dessert recipe that is pretty good called Ricotta Cream-it's basically just low fat or fat free ricotta mixed with some Splenda and whatever flavoring you want like vanilla, almond extract, unsweetened cocoa powder or even some natural peanut butter. It's good when you are craving something sweet!

Also there is a recipe for "South Beach Style Mashed Potatoes" which is cooked cauliflower pureed with some half-n-half and I Can't Believe It's Butter Spray & salt & pepper. It's not bad and you can actually convince yourself it's mashed potatoes!

Hope that helps and good luck!

Thanks Nicole. I might look for hummus and laughing cow (I think I've seen that in the store) and a bunch of vegies to dip. That might keep me out of snack trouble while we're camping! We don't usually have nuts at our house, but the pistachios are an interesting idea.

I had no idea this was on the Dis boards so I am so glad I found it.

Anyway, my DH and I just started South Beach Diet on Monday. I, too, am finding breakfast the hardest.

Nicolep91, when I start Phase 2 I am planning on following his meal plans very closely. I am definitely scared I will add too many carbs I already looked at them, and thankfully, on his Day 1 of Phase 2 there is something besides eggs for breakfast!

Good luck everyone!

YEAH!!! I'm nervous about Phase 2 also, but definitely looking forward to it!

I found breakfast to be the hardest part of Phase 1, too. I'm not an egg lover. I don't mind eggbeater's garden vegetable and southwest flavors.

When I started Phase 2, I added 1 carb & a fruit a day and increased slowly from there. Don't worry about adding carbs. if you follow the guidelines you'll be fine.

I have found (for me) that I need to vary when and what carbs I eat. I do better having oatmeal one day, eggbeaters the next, cereal the day after ect. Same idea with lunch and dinner.

I now eat pretty much everything on the Phase 2 list. (Not on the same day:D ) Even had a half of a multi-grain bagel one morning. Still lost weight that week.

As for recipe ideas. I've found alot that can be adapted from Atkins. (DH is doing Atkins) The low carb recipe thread at the top of this board has several we love. Also www.lowcarbfriends has a recipe board with lots of good ideas.

Good luck to all you losers.:D

How's everyone doing on the Beach? I'm on day 3. I'm following the program well but still not real excited about what I'm eating. Hopefully it will get better when I get my book - it should be here next week. Meanwhile, I've got my camping trip to survive!

So far hummus is my favorite part of the diet - I never really liked it before!

disykat - I'm doing pretty good. I'm on Day 5 here and I haven't really experienced any adverse reactions to the diet like others have reported (no bad headaches, achy-ness). I felt a bit lightheaded a couples times but then I had a snack and felt better quickly. I've lost 3 lbs. so far, which I'm truly excited about! I know this weekend is going to be tough but since I'm seeing some results (I REALLY think my tummy looks better already) I think I'll be able to tough it out. Not having a drink will probably be the hardest.

I had a bit of a hard time last night when I had to make 30 cupcakes for my daughter's kindergarten class. They smelled so good and I wanted to soooo badly! The worst I did though was have a taste of the frosting. Unfortunately though, school was cancelled b/c of a power outtage and now I have 30 cupcakes sitting at home and no idea how I'm going to get rid of them all!

It is easy to get bored with the diet, maybe you could take a look at some of the low-carp recipes here and get some ideas? Keep it up! :D

Hi, nattyk. Welcome to the DIS and a very special welcome to WISH. I'm glad you decided to take the challenge.

Would you do me a favor and post to the WISH challenge thread too? Posting there makes you an official WISHer. You will find the Challenge thread right HERE.

I hope you can visit often and I hope you will join us Sunday evening for transatlantic chat at 7PM GMT. Lots of Brits and people from the US come together for this trip planning chat and we have lots of fun.

I follow Atkins instead of South Beach. I don't think there is too much difference except I like the higher fat allowance on Atkins. I haven't had plain white bread, sugar, pasta or potatoes since 1/9/03. Don't miss them either. I know Dr. Atkins says we can eat whole grain breads and pastas but I don't want them enough to "waste" the carbs, right now.

I also started SBD on monday, I am on day 5, I did not weigh myself yet, but will tomorrow.
I really like it so far, and find it very easy to do, and amazingly enough do not crave the carbs.
I am going on the cruise in February and want to have to buy a whole new wardrobe for it.....

I think my problem is I'm just not too crazy about meat or vegies. I've always eaten them first and saved my favorite part like pasta etc. for last. Finding things to cook doesn't seem to be much of a problem (I've found great recipes here and at other sites!), but it's going to take a bit for me to adjust to my emotional attachment to carbs!

hi all,

well it will be a week tomorrow since I started on the SBD and so far 7lbs off :-) have only had 2 things this week which I was not ment to - frappe coffee with vanilla syrup!!!! otherwise I have been very good. Not missing carbs at all - just bored of eggs!!!!!! scared about moving onto phase2 and not losing weight!!
If you are on phase 2/3 how are you finding the weight lose?

Speak again soon

Nat

7lbs lighter!!!!

DH & I are solidly in Phase 2. We are happy to report that we spent a wk. at WDW & 4 days at HH (we're DVC) and we did not gain any weight. We continued to exercise, in addition to the walking at WDW. We tried to follow low-carb, but allowed ourselves some sensible treats. We ate in restaurants throughout the trip & we found that almost all of them were very acmmodating. We still miss our pasta & we always will. But So.Beach was worked well for us.
