Does anyone know what the source of gelatin via the marshmallows are in those rice crispy treats sold in MK bakery and all over the resort?

No but thanks to a tip here I know they are made my Selma's - you can contact them?

I don't know what's in the gelatin but I know the rice crispies treats are not vegan. I had to research it a year ago because I wanted to bring home something for a vegan friend

I reached out to Selma. Their marshmallow source is pork. Unfortunately can’t eat them.

Ditto :(

But I appreciate the confirmation that I didn't pass on them unnecessarily...thanks for sharing the info.

Good to know. As someone with a pork allergy, I assume pork when it comes to gelatin unless stated otherwise.

I doubt very much that the gelatin comes from agar agar or a similar plant based source so do let us know what you find out.

Companies that use plant based say so. They don’t say “gelatin”.

If it says gelatin it’s pork or beef.

If it says kosher gelatin, that’s fish. (Tillamook sour cream uses that)

No vegetarian (like me) or vegan requires any further research than the ingredient list for gelatin

Haven't ever eaten a mickey treat or seen the packaging; ingredient list wasn't listed at Selma's either:).

I know that agar agar isn't gelatin but to be exacting next time I'll use the term "gelling agent" ;).

Ew. Note made to avoid "kosher gelatin". I don't eat things that swim.

FYI, not all the rice krispies sold at the disney parks are Selma's brand. They make them fresh in the candy stores...I have seen them being made.

I imagine they use standard food service marshmallows, though, which contain gelatin from animal products.

Unless specifically stated as vegan or kosher, ALL gelatin in the parks is beef/pork based (including the gelatin in Zebra domes).
