Sounds Dangerous....why?

People go in expecting a RIDE.

"Sounds Dangerous" is a show based on "Binaural Headphone Audio."

This show represents a fascinating use of audio technology that is very well-produced.

There is a similarly-designed headphone audio pre-show for Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln at Disneyland.

Over at the Conservation Station in DAK there is a conservation show about the rain forests produced in "Binaural Headphone Audio."

The audio portion of "Stitch's Great Escape" is this same technology.

If you find no enjoyment in just LISTENING to a program, I don't recommend the Sounds Dangerous show.
But if you are a fan of "audio books" or can appreciate "radio drama", its a great example of the use of SOUND to create an atmosphere and tell a story.

Sounds Dangerous takes up very little space, and costs next-to-nothing to operate.
I think this is a fine little amusing show.

One of the things that upsets me is when someone doesn't like something they immediately call for it's removal. Why would one care if something that somebody else likes is allowed to stay...just don't go to it.

I appreciate the history of Small World but, I don't like the show particularly. Still, incredibly, you don't hear me calling for it to be torn down because I think it is a waste of time.

I understand that most people that were not raised in the time before TV was everywhere cannot appreciate the "radio" experience. I do and I think it was a very courageous move for Disney to dedicate a show that had no visual stimuli at all, just "sound effects". It proved the point so much better than just a sound effects show. But, since imagination is no longer programed into our gene's, no one can picture the show in their mind. It must be shown to them or it is missed completely. I know it wasn't the most "exciting" show ever put on by Disney, but it was different and enjoyable for many of us. In the future...if you don't like something just walk right on past and leave it there for the rest of us that do enjoy different forms of entertainment.

Definitely not my favorite. It was a very nice place to take a nap though :thumbsup2

I'm not sure I can judge impartially though- I really hate Drew Carey. I used to love both Who's Line is it Anyway (British version) and Price is Right but I cannot watch either with him hosting. I think it's because he laughs too much at his own jokes. That bugs me.

Being as objective as I can be, I'd say that the overall Stitch attraction is pretty well designed, but many guests expect one thing, and end up getting
an experience that is "less than expected."

Thanks to Robo. His description of Sound Dangerous now makes me wish I'd at least checked it out. His take on Stitch more or less matches my own. It's not a ride for everybody, but I thought it was a neat little offbeat experience. I like neat little offbeat experiences.

I've never been on Sounds Dangerous mostly cause we never stay long at DHS. I probably wont get a chance to check it out next time, but if the opportunity presents itself, I'll walk in. Certainly could not be any worse than the embarrasment-palooza that is The Great Movie Ride.

I'll mimic the sentiments of an above poster here. Why is it that everyone decides if THEY don't like something it's worth tearing down or an "embarrasment-palooza"? GMR is a beloved attraction by many, I hardly think it's fair to call it that.

That said as for Sounds Dangerous I always rather liked it myself. The haircut scene always comes to mind when I'm getting a real haircut, and the jar of bees is eery in a lot of ways. I think you kinda have to let your hearing take over for your sight, and maybe not everyone can do that?

I think that I might call the SCRIPT an "embarrassment."

The attraction vignettes are very well designed.
The transportation system is pretty cool.
But, that effusive spiel is about the weakest piece of Disney writing
I can think of.

At least the Jungle Cruise Skippers can veer off script and conduct the
whole ride with tongue-in-cheek silliness.

GMR's script seems to be cast in stone (spoken verbatim, every time.)

Wish someone would do a rewrite and "punch it up" a little.

:goodvibes

I enjoyed this audio attraction the first time or two but after that I will admit that we used the seats, darkness and AC as a way to take a brief completely relaxing nap.

It literally was our favorite place to go on a hot day to just briefly chill out and relax. For that alone I will miss it!

Disney could use a lounge place like this in each park. Have comfortable seats, sound canceling earphones, and dimmed lights all set up to allow people to just relax and recharge for 15 minutes or so.:goodvibes

I think they should convert it into a combined Drew Carey/Stitch show. Just think, two of the most hated WDW attractions now together in one theater!

The old show was much, much better and more geared to a studio. But there isn't much of a "studio" left in that park anymore. Ah, for the days when it was a real working studio. I remember seeing real TV and movie sets and working productions in the old days.

I totally agree with you and Robo. :thumbsup2 Maybe it's because I'm older than dirt :rolleyes1, but I enjoy the auditory vs visual delight that this attraction features.

But, hey, I've been known to spend an hour scrutinizing all the displays in One man's dream, so don't go by what I say! :lmao:

It was a great place to escape the heat and rain and take a little nap. I guess that wasn't its intended purpose, but it worked for me!:rotfl2:

I thought it was okay. It was kind of like a knockoff of Guy Noir from "Prairie Home Companion" (which, of course, is an homage to the Golden Age of Radio).

When the studios first opened the attraction was "The Monster Sound Show".
It was much better than what's there now. It had a very funny monster film spoof that illustrated how sound effects can impact a movie. There was an interactive element as well with volunteers from the audience. It was a most enjoyable attraction and I was sad to see it go.:earsboy:

Well, Not older than dirt (in my eyes anyway..lol) but have to say that my DD17 and I do Sounds Dangerous every trip....We really enjoy it! Those scissors and blow dryer give me chills up my back just the same as when I get an actual hair cut!

Someone mentioned needing to let your hearing take over and I agree with that! Was is a thrill ride,...no, but it wasn't meant to be either.

I like to experience each attraction as it was intended and not compare it to other attractions that are not, nor meant to be, the same experience. I take them for what they are and decide from there if I want to try it again (several times) or enjoy it only once each trip ...or 3..;)

28 days to go!:cloud9:

That's so funny... when DD (23) and I were there together last January she was so upset to see that is was closed since it was one of the attractions she was most looking forward to doing! :lmao:

Only done Sounds Dangerous once, but enjoyed it that time. I definitely agree with Robo's comments about the attraction.

I think it is a unique attraction, entertaining, and fits in very well with the overall theme of the park.
I enjoy Great Movie Ride to this day as well. Never get tired of strolling by Gene Kelly or through Oz....and enjoy the clips at the end as well.
