My 11 year old daughter is looking forward to playing SOTMK on our visit in June. I know we (3 of us) can all get one pack of cards per day we visit the MK. We might do two days in MK... should I buy her some extra cards on eBay before we travel? Will having more cards make the game more fun?

Do not buy them on ebay.

Having 15 cards from the 3 packs will certainly be a good start for her, and if you go two days, that will be 30 cards.

There is trading binder at the Main St. Fire station (ask to see it if a cast member is not standing outside with it) should you have any duplicates and there are often other guests set up at Dry Tortuga Cafe who will trade. Sometimes the Fire Station cast members also give out leftover party cards from Christmas or Halloween, so be sure to ask when you get your card packs.

You could make cards yourself from internet images. The game system recognises the graphics on the cards, so you'd want to be sure to print high quality.

I have read about people who upload card images to their phones and play the game that way.

One thing to keep in mind is that you can cast more than one spell at a time. The game is actually able to process 6 cards at once, although some spells overpower the graphics of other spells.

For our family, actually having too many cards makes the experience too complex. Though, I will say that I have seen some people with books full of cards. We just do it for the fun. We get our 3 packs of cards (we're also a family of 3) each day we're there and that is really enough ...almost too much...for us. No matter how you approach it, I'm sure she ( and you ) will really enjoy it. It really is a great use of technology!

Usually, they start you out on Easy, where the actual card used doesn't matter. So, don't bother buying any extra cards, especially off Ebay. If you really want to buy cards, buy the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom trading card home game. The home game is a little weird. However, it comes with special cards that can only be obtained through the game. I would only buy this if you really feel it necessary though. I sometimes have added the game to my Disney Store cart so that I could get free shipping.

Be sure to add everyone to the game, that way anyone that wants to play can. We usually take turns at each portal.

I didn't know they traded at the Fire Station. We have only traded with other players. However, they usually aren't willing to trade for things we don't have. We are getting to where there's probably less than 10 cards we don't have, excluding the party cards. I will have to see about trading with them next trip. They were handing out xmas party cards on our xmas-New Years trip, even if you didn't attend a party. It was in addition to the pack of cards per day. I thought that was pretty cool. I am hoping they will do this with the Halloween party cards when we go for Wine & Dine half marathon, since it will be right after Halloween.

Just keep in mind, the game is fun, but does take a good amount of time to play especially the first time while you are getting used to it. Depending on what you want to get done in MK, you may only want to play one mission, maybe in the afternoon/evening when you have gotten done some of your major attractions and first 3 FP. But you can collect cards for your next visit to play some more! My DD bought the binder at the store on the right on Main St.(name is escaping me) at the end of her first time playing which comes with more cards, where she has kept them organized for future trips.

as others have said you really do not need to buy card from eBay I have finished a game with only using maybe 15 cards and this was the whole game ( I really could have done it with a lot less)

You might try joining the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Helpers group on facebook.

Lots of nice people there, many of whom are more than willing to do mail trades for cards. Members are also often at Tortuga Tavern with spares to trade, and if you happen upon the right member, there is a possibility that they might gift your daughter a card or two (or more)

Last summer when we were in Disney, we gave a full set of cards away, and I know other members have done the same.

Thanks for that tip!

You're welcome. They really are a great group of people. Members often post in the group when they will be in the parks with cards to trade. Many times members will hand cards out to new players, or hide packs of cards in the park, and post pictures of where they are hidden so members can look for them.

Second the group. Also many of us are local and have lots of extras (especially 30-60) and are glad to send them out to anyone who needs them without a trade. (If I have lower numbers I'll send them too). This could be helpful if she wants help completing her set (at least the free 1-60 part of it) when she gets home after the trip.
