Sorry, I cannot seem to figure out what to do in my situation, even after reading some of the older posts here. We are going back to WDW for our 2nd trip this fall for 9 days. DS is 4 1/2 (will be 5 in December), weighs 43 pounds and is 43" tall. Even though he is an active child who plays all day, we needed to rent a stroller while in WDW last fall. My feeling is the high temps with the high humidity combined with all the excitement just tired him out. I really don't want to start a debate about the need for a stroller with a 5yo, I really need help finding something.

We currently own 2 strollers:
First we have a 5 yo Evenflo travel system that we used with the infant car seat when DS was young. I really am not fond of this because A) it has a non-removable front bar across the seat so DS would have to climb in then sit down or we would have to lift him in or DH would have to try to get it off somehow, B) the wheels on this really *stink* and I have never liked this stroller C) it is heavy.

Second we have a 2-3 yo Graco double stroller (use with my daycare) that we *could* take but A) it seems like such a big stroller & B) this also has the non-removable front bar so DS would have to climb in this as well. But the wheels are so much better than the first one!

Yesterday we went shopping around :Wal-Mart, KMart, Target, BRU, TRU, Sears etc... Seems like it is difficult to find something that is affordable & will work for us. We would like to find something that is somewhat lightweight, has some type of sun-protection & reclines (not neccessary but would be nice). The one that we found @ KMart is on sale this week by Kolcraft (Grand Sport) and cost $39.95.

However it is much heavier than the typical umbrella strollers I have seen--but those don't offer any sun protection. I would prefer to spend no more than $40 on this purchase because we cannot have any other children & this would be one of the few times it would be used.

Any sugggestions out there for something that is affordable for us?

Just bumping!

Has anyone ever used the Graco LiteSport XT or Literider? Wondering how these would be with his weight? It is so hard to fiind out the technical info on these!

We have the Kolcraft Lite Sport lightweight stroller, got it at Sears.com for 29.95, and it works really well for our 4.5 year old dd. She's exactly the same size as your ds, and she fits well in it. It is basically a nicer umbrella stroller with a canopy, basket, and removable tray in front. We've used the regular umbrella strollers in the past, but this one is just nicer because of the extras on it. Good luck!

pajamommy-thanks for the response! Do you feel the stroller is fairly sturdy? To be honest, I bought one of these already from Sears & put it together next to the one I bought from KMart yesterday (the Grand Sport model). Obviously the GS is built for longer use, do you think the LiteSport will hold up with the heavier child in it? I was worried because the weight limit is 25 pounds. LMK what you think about the sturdiness of it--thanks!

Yes, I think its sturdy enough, although the one I have says up to 35 lbs. which is what the regular umbrella strollers are up to, and those hold my dd just fine. So, if you have it, maybe try it out in the house with your ds in it and see, and then if you don't like it you can return it.

Weluvdis...

What about the Combi SUVB at bluelight.com? With a $10 discount code, you can get it for around $40 (plus shipping) and I understand that it only weighs around 8 pounds soaking wet, has a shoulder strap for carrying, and holds a 45 pound child. We are in essentially the same situation with our 4.5 yr old (who will be 5 at time we go), and I am considering ditching our double jogger in favour of two single reclining umbrellas with storage capabilities.

Just wanted to give you another option... My DS is 6 now, but we made the investment when he was 4. We kept looking for a stroller long enough and comfortable for a growing boy. We decided to buy a double (long version) stroller. We put the front seat down and he has space galore. We're still using it on our trips to the MK--next one in a few days. It has plenty of storage space below and a canopy for shade.

Hope this helped.

Thanks everyone for your ideas! We will try out a couple of things--take the one we already bought for a test drive around the house with DS in it. Also, a local store has the Combi SubV stroller so we will try that out as well. I really wasn't thinking about the double stroller we already have because of the weight, but that may work out in the end. Thanks for the thoughts and suggestions!
